Kerry Is Like Gen. McClellan, Bush Like Gen. Grant
By Gordon Bloyer (05/30/04)
In my local newspaper there is a daily column where readers can call in and make comments. These comments are anonymous. This comment caught my eye. ''What is with these Hoosiers? More than half disapprove of Bush’s record, but more than half would vote for him. Makes no sense at all.''
In fact, it makes perfect sense. Let's look back at history. General George B. McClellan was the leader of the Union Army. McClellan was a man of distinguished service in the Mexican War. Yet as the leader in Civil War he was indecisive and didn’t know when or where to fight. He always wanted more troops. He couldn’t make up his mind.
President Lincoln replaced him with General Grant. Grant did not always do everything by the book but he was a decisive leader. He went on the attack. It was Grant’s tactics that won the war.
Senator John Kerry is like McClellan. He is indecisive: he voted for the war, then I voted against it. He can’t make up his mind about funding the war in Iraq. He can’t make up his mind about the Patriot Act. Like McClellan, he would be a disaster as the commander in chief.
President Bush is like Grant; he knows who the enemy is and he is going after him. We took Afghanistan when the Russians couldn’t. We kicked Hussein’s butt in record time and then we captured him. The naysayer’s said this could not be done. President Bush did it. Bush has always said the War on Terror would be long and hard.
Many citizens may not like everything President Bush has done, but when the choice is between Bush (Grant) and Kerry (McClellan) they will pick Bush.
Before the looney left tries to compare President Grant’s administration to President Bush’s, let’s beat them to the punch. Grant had one of the most corrupt administrations in history. President Bush does not have a corrupt administration, even though the left would make those accusations.
