Shining City On One Hill

See the shining city on the hill. We call it ‘America’. Why America is America begins with the hill. The hill’s soil can be loam, rock or sand. The soil can be virgin or worked for generations. The soil is to the city as culture is to a country. The culture provides the basic ideas for building civilizations, just as soil is the foundation for the city. Countries come from civilizations.
America is built on Judeo-Christian culture. America’s unique Judeo-Christian culture includes the huge inheritance of English Western Civilization built upon the ruins of Roman and Greek Civilization. Thus, the ideas in our soil, which we call ‘American’, are Enlightenment, English, Protestant thinking. The Judeo-Christian idea of marriage is for one man and one woman.
If the soil and hill was Muslim, a man could marry four women. If it were Mormon, a man could marry forty women. If it were ancient Egyptian or Polynesian, a man could marry his sister. No soil, meaning no culture, ever – EVER – had a man ‘marry’ a man or woman ‘marry’ a woman. Even cultures that promoted homosexual behavior never confused homosexual sex with marriage. Never.
The city foundations dug from the soil of the hill may support the tiniest tribe or the greatest civilizations. All hills are not the same as all cultures are not equal. American Civilization is starting its fifth century. American Civilization is still ascending. The moral-ethical standards of American Civilization are established from the Bible. Adultery, incest, homosexuality and bestiality are moral wrongs in America - since 1607.
The buildings rising from foundations are the nations and governments growing from civilizations. The nations are the framework of the buildings and the governments are the finishes. The details of function and art, which make a house a unique home, are like the laws that give shape, substance and color to the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
The basis of the American Nation is the Declaration of Independence. The Judeo-Christian God (and no other God) is cited four times in the Declaration. The Declaration is the foundation of the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution is the basis for federal and state governments and laws. States made adultery, incest, sodomy, and bestiality illegal from 1787 until very recently.
State by state some legislatures changed the rules on sodomy and adultery. Yet, the fundamentals of laws governing sexual behavior haven’t changed, just the boundary lines. Every culture that ever existed has had boundaries for sexual behavior. The boundaries made sexual behavior honored, tolerated or punished. The boundary line for America moved to tolerate sodomy. Adultery is tolerated in some state codes now, and of course, is honored by Liberals when a Democrat does it. Last year the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Americans have a right to commit sodomy. The justices just made up the ‘right’, as they will, soon, for homosexual marriage.
Moving homosexual marriage from a tolerated faux marriage of civil unions to state-honored marriage means the city can’t stand on the same hill as before. The Judeo-Christian culture is abandoned. So, whose hill will hold the shining city? What ideas will define right and wrong?
There will be no legal reason, if judges destroy our moral-ethical standards, to deny polygamy, especially if America is ‘multi-cultural’ in its diversity, and not allow Muslims four wives and Mormons their forty brides. There is no legal standing to deny consenting adults incest and marriage. Who dares judge their ‘love’ in the privacy of their bedroom? There is no barrier to bestiality and changing the age of consent so that adults and children can have sex and, perhaps, marry. Why should sex in public or nudity be banned by law?
Liberals scoff these changes will never happen. And thirty-one years after the judges made up the right to have abortions; forty million American babies won’t be dead, right? And a barbaric procedure of infanticide, partial-birth abortion, won’t overturn the law just because an appointed black-robed priest-king said so.
If infanticide comes with abortion, then the ‘Tolerance’ of Totalitarianism arrives against Christians with homosexual marriage. You can only say what is politically correct. I got an email from a lawyer, University of Virginia Law no less, who said it is ‘hate’ speech to say “Homosexual behavior is immoral because the Bible says so.” Soon it will be a ‘hate’ crime as it is in Canada and Europe today.
Which hill will America stand on when our Judeo-Christian hill is leveled?
