Latinos Counterbalancing Islamic Immigration Into The EU
By Ann Huggett (10/12/03)
While in London three years ago I heard about a then unusual event where seven Mexican illegals stormed the Swedish Embassy demanding that they be granted economic immigrant status because the US was drying up as a source of jobs.
They claimed it was their "right" to work in Sweden. It might have seemed somewhat comical in the UK but immigration of illegal Latinos was and still is a hot button issue in the US Pro and anti-immigration passions are dividing the electorate (against) from desperate politicians (for) and big money interests looking for cheap, under-the-counter labor. Because of their massive influx into the U.S. many Latinos feel that they no longer have to assimilate, maintaining close ties and loyalties with their original countries instead. US national sovereignty, security, identity, language, and culture are all under assault making the average law-abiding citizen and legal immigrant angry, frightened, and frustrated.
If the comment by Mexican-turned-US-citizen, Maria Jacinto, is any indication, "I think I'm still a Mexican. When my skin turns white and my hair turns blonde, then I'll be an American." then the US needs to seriously drop its foggy, liberal, guilt-trip, love affair with multi-cultural diversity, seal the borders, and start emphasizing what we have in common rather than what sets us apart.
The majority of Latino immigrants come mainly from Mexico although all Latin American nations have their established communities in the US. Mexico feels so entitled to America as a safety valve for its unwanted and economically disenfranchised poor that it has actively sealed off its own southern border in order to keep other Latin American immigrants from making the journey up to the US through Mexico. However, another geographic area also has the lure of jobs, porous borders, and easily obtained forged documents for those Latinos willing and able to strike out and away from the poverty endemic to Latin America. Thanks to some tougher US immigration policies only now coming into effect after 9/11 and a saturated job and housing market, even Mexicans are looking to Europe as the next land of opportunity.
Because of its language, historical connections, and culture, Spain is the preferred destination with Switzerland, Italy, and Britain also seeing an increase in Latino legal and illegal immigrants. Italy, because of its low birthrate, has been actively depopulating and there are towns now in Germany that are literally being abandoned as what is left of the natives die off. Faced with falling birth rates and having to support an ever increasingly aged population addicted to social welfare schemes and pensions with less and less workers, EU members had looked to the Middle East to import guest workers and bolster their falling populations.
Unfortunately, the Middle Eastern immigrants, both legal and illegal carried with them a theocratic totalitarian agenda not in keeping with either Western Civilization or notions of a liberal society based on freedom. By welcoming Muslim immigrants into the EU, the EU nations opened themselves up to a covert Islamic invasion by a people whose religious philosophy has not changed since its 7th Century concept of "Become a Muslim or Die" was first formulated. Repelled not once but twice since they first set their sights on Europe, Muslims are now achieving through immigration into Europe what they could not accomplish by the sword over their 1500 year history.
Concerned by what they see of Islamic incursions and mindful of colonial ties, Spain is leading the way by offering Spanish citizenship to Latino immigrants after 24 months of residency. It is estimated that there are 400,000 legal and illegal Ecuadorians in Spain with most arriving since 1999. There is also a thriving black market in counterfeit Spanish passports and birth certificates.
According to Silvestre Romero, chief inspector of the Barajas International Airport in Madrid, "Planes come in every day from such South American cities as Lima, Quito, Guayaquil and Bogotá with 350 passengers, and leave with 150. We know they're not tourists."
Mindful that they had earlier lost control of their borders by Islamic immigration, the members of the EU want to now track their immigrant populations and learn their correct numbers. A common EU visa policy is in place and airlines are required to alert authorities when visitors do not use their return tickets. Considering that Latino immigrants, whatever their status, bring to the EU a desire to work, obey Western law, have an appreciation of the Western European heritage, have a foundation in Catholicism, and an acceptance of women's rights, then the Latino should be openly courted and encouraged to move to the EU. It's time people with cultural standards compatible with and founded on European ideals were welcomed in to the EU rather than an aggressive, hostile population intent on its destruction and conversion to Islam. This will also have the added benefit to the US of shifting Latino immigration across the Atlantic so that those who stay in the US can assimilate without the constant native cultural reinforcement of new arrivals.
