Media Deals Three Card Monte Hand To Voters
By Ann Huggett (10/01/03)
Everybody's seen those hustlers on the street switching cards around in the typical scam game called Three Card Monte. The game relies on the greed and gullibility of the passerby as he bets he can pick the Queen out of the three down turned cards on the table.
The dealer shuffles the cards all the while keeping up a steady stream of patter then asks his victim to find the Queen card. There's usually a gang of men, all friends of the hustler, acting as shills and encouraging the victim to lay his money down. Even if the right card is miraculously picked, there is never a payout and the pigeon ends up poorer for the exercise. As he stands there in the suddenly deserted street it slowly dawns on him that he's been had.
Well Three Card Monte is exactly the name of the game this week run by the hustling American media and their leftist shills but this time it's a bait-and-switch that's being played with a radio talk show host's reputation, the security of the Bush White House, and Weapons of Mass Destruction instead of mere playing cards. The Queen card, of course, is the WMDs with Rush Limbaugh as the Jack of clubs, CIA security as the five of Diamonds, and the David Kay report on Saddam Hussein's motives and arsenal as the Joker card substituted for the Queen card.
In other words, the deck is stacked. The real news, i.e. that the payout Queen card is being lost in the shuffle, is that $60 million dollars worth of biological warheads and chemical Weapons of Mass Destruction were stopped being smuggled OUT of Iraq by alert Kuwaiti border agents. Per the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyassah, Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah publicly plans to hand over all the WMDs to the FBI.
Is this incredible find, which represents a real intelligence breakthrough for the Kuwaitis and a justification for some of the reasons for the Iraqi War in the first place, to be swept off the playing table of news events? Evidently so because all the media is focusing on right now is their Jack of Clubs card: Rush Limbaugh's casual remark implying an Affirmative Action reason for all the hoopla surrounding black quarterback Donovan McNabb. McNabb himself claims that is a full-blown racist statement when all Limbaugh did was wonder out loud as to who actually should be given team credit for wins. The left has always hated Rush Limbaugh for his highly successful, conservative talk show and have been desperate to silence him for nearly two decades. In their minds, freedom of speech only applies to those toting the left's party line. A commentator like Limbaugh, who openly and freely speaks his mind, is a direct threat to them.
In other words, everything not politically correct is "hate speech". That's why you get the leftist chorus of "Off with Limbaugh's head!" while they'll give a pass to people like Democratic 2004 Presidential candidate Al Sharpton for referring to New York as "Hymie Town" or West Virginia Democratic Senator Robert Bryd for being a former member of the Ku Klux Klan. If the race-hate speech doesn't down Limbaugh, the allegations that he illegally used painkillers just might. While Limbaugh quit his ESPN position, perhaps erroneously, the leftists smell blood and are now going after Limbaugh to get him off the air entirely. It will be ugly but Limbaugh should be able to weather the storm.
Next card up is the five of Diamonds with a furor being raised over the "outing" of a CIA operative, Valerie Plame, supposedly by someone in the Bush White House over her husband's Niger fact-finding trip on Saddam Hussein's reputed purchase of yellow cake uranium. That Plame is more a desk jockey than field operative not covered by identity secrecy and that her husband is a Clinton appointee whose original balanced tone from his 2002 report to the CIA has changed to one of harsh criticism the closer we get to the 2004 Presidential election, one has to wonder why this manufactured scandal is getting any airplay. Perhaps the shouts of "Treason!" and "We demand a Special Counsel Investigation!" and "Impeachment!" from the left is supposed to be a counterpoint to the wildly popular book, Treason by Ann Coulter, which chronicles repeated acts of actual treason and betrayal by the Democratic Party.
Then there is the Joker card as portrayed by David Kay, head of the CIA led Iraq Survey Group, who plans on telling the US Congress that not only are there no WMDs to be found in Iraq but that Saddam Hussein was just bluffing. That is the gist of Kay's Interim Report on Weapons of Mass Destruction and never mind the $60million dollars worth of WMDs sitting in Kuwait ready to be handed over to the FBI. No need to let facts get in the way of a good theory.
I remember hearing one peace activist on one of the alphabet news stations one time snort out, "There will never be enough Weapons of Mass Destruction found to suit us!"
Oh, and the next time you get suckered into playing Three Card Monte, immediately pin down one card with your finger claiming that's the Queen then upturn the other two cards as fast as possible while keeping that first card pinned down. Chances are the two cards you turned up won't be the Queen. The dealing hustler can't admit that the remaining card isn't the Queen. Maybe that's the way to watch the news anymore: ignore the shills and pin down a fact to expose everything else as a sham.
