Hillary Turns Down John Kerry
By Tom Barrett (07/13/04)
Everyone thinks the big story of the week is that John Kerry chose John Edwards as his running mate. Wrong! The real story is that Kerry chose Hillary, and she turned him down - not once, but several times. Since he had to choose someone, he chose Edwards.
To understand what has happened over the last several months in the Democrat race for president, you must understand one basic fact: The Clintons don't care about anyone but the Clintons. They don't care about the Democrat Party, they don't care about liberal values (these are amoral people with no value system whatsoever), and they darn sure don't care about John Kerry. They have no loyalty to anyone but themselves. They would become Republicans if they had to in order to meet their goal.
They have only one goal. They want Hillary to be the first female President of the United States. In order for that to happen, George Bush must win this election. So they will do all in their power to assure that Bush wins, while appearing to support the Democrat candidates.
Many months ago, when there were still twenty-five Democrat candidates, I stated that whenever there was a clear winner, his first phone call would not be to tell his wife the good news. His first call would be to Hillary to ask her to be his running mate. And I said that she would turn him down flat. Not because she wants to keep her promise to New York to finish her term. She doesn't understand the concept of keeping a promise. She would turn down the offer of the Vice-Presidency because it is beneath her. She will only accept the Presidency. And she is arrogant enough that she thinks she can achieve that, even though so many millions despise her.
So why would a Democrat "presumptive nominee" put himself through that humiliation? Because every one of them knows that they cannot win the White House without the Clinton's help. Therefore, when it became clear that Kerry would be the nominee, he made the call. He begged, he pleaded, and he groveled. She laughed at him.
Kerry was thinking like a politician. If she joined his ticket, it would "energize" the feminists. They would love to see a woman in the White House - no an unelected Co-President as Hillary formerly was, but one who was actually elected, even to the second chair. He would have a chance of being elected, and therefore a chance to be re-elected. Then Hillary, as an incumbent Vice-President would have her shot at the top chair.
He didn't have a clue who he was dealing with. She is not loyal to the Party. And she has no patience. And she most certainly would never sit second seat to a man she considers a loser, someone who is far beneath her in every way. So he kept calling her, and she kept telling him that she had to rearrange her sock drawer.
After numerous phone calls to both Hil and Bill, it became clear that they really want Bush to win. Kerry is not the sharpest stick in the woods, but it became apparent even to him that the Clintons were conspicuously AWOL from his campaign. Oh, they put in token appearances here and there, but there was no enthusiasm, no passion - no support. So he looked around at the rather slim pickings (no Dem really relishes getting squashed by the most popular president since Reagan). And he picked Edwards.
I could say a lot about Edwards, but this is really about the Clintons. I must, however, remind you of one of the most amusing aspects of this farce. A few months ago Kerry tore Edwards up one side and down the other with his vicious tongue. He was still pooping in his diapers while Kerry was saving the US in Viet Nam. He had no experience. There was no way Edwards could be president because he knew nothing and had less sense.
While the "search" was on for a running mate, Kerry talked about how the single most important qualification for his V.P. was that he or she must be someone who could step right into the presidency should something happen to him. Of course he was thinking about Hillary when he said this. Now that Hillary is out of the picture, suddenly the despised John Edwards who didn't know how to tie his shoes a few months ago is miraculously qualified to become president. What absolutely disgusting hypocrisy.
Edwards has added something to the campaign that Kerry lacked - a personality. He is bright, charming and has charisma. Kerry is dull, boring and has all the charisma of a retired mortician. So Kerry has apparently decided he can absorb some of Edwards appeal - by osmosis. Suddenly we are besieged with still photos and video of Kerry and Edwards touching. Touching, hugging, touching embracing, touching! I swear if they kiss each other I will vomit.
I cannot conclude this without letting you in on why Hillary needs for Bush to win. If Kerry were to win it would be suicide for her to go up against him in 2008. The Democrats would never forgive her for running against an incumbent member of her own party. Even Hillary couldn't get away with that.
She knows that Cheney won't run in 2008 (more on that in a later article). So she sees her best chance if Bush wins and the Republicans don't have a strong candidate to put up against her.
So you will not see the Clintons giving any more than token support to Kerry in the next few months. And it won't be because they hate Bush or despise Kerry (although both are true). It's all about them. It has always been all about them.
