Bush Didn't Lie About Weapons Of Mass Destruction - Part II
By Tom Barrett (06/07/04)
In Part I we proved, using their own words, that in 1998 Clinton and other prominent Democrats tried hard (but failed) to convince the American people to go to war against Iraq. Today they sing an entirely different story. What's the difference? They failed because they governed by polls. Now a strong President from the other party has made the case to America and completed what Clinton did not have the moral courage to do. And of course liberals cannot support the actions of a conservative, even if they believe in those actions!
To begin, let's hear from the EX-President (how I enjoy being able to say that!) of the United States, Billy-Bob Clinton. In the televised statement from which this is taken, Clinton announces his "unprovoked, pre-emptive attack against the sovereign nation of Iraq". (The words in quotation marks are those of Clinton's close ally, Sen. Robert Byrd. Of course Byrd would never have used these words to describe his fellow Democrat's attack. As you read on, you will see that Byrd attacked George W. Bush with those words when he did the same thing Clinton had done.)
"Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors."
-EX-President William Clinton, Dec. 16, 1998

Keep in mind that this was Clinton's first move in his all-out war on Iraq. He believed that Saddam was dangerous and had to be removed. But, as I mentioned in Part I, when the polls (his source of knowledge and inspiration) showed insufficient support, he caved in and ditched his plan.
Here are more quotes from Clinton staffers and close allies that demonstrate that they don't know how to choose a position and stick to it. As you read these convincing statements about the seriousness of the threat of Saddam's WMD's, keep in mind that today they are saying exactly the opposite. Which time did they lie?
First, let's hear from Clinton's closest advisors, his Cabinet members:
" The United States is prepared to use substantial force against Iraq if diplomatic efforts fail to resolve the crisis over U.N. weapons inspections - We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton's Secretary of State, Feb 1, 1998
SOURCE: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9802/01/iraq/
"Iraq is a long way from [the USA], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face."
- Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998
SOURCE: http://www.fas.org/news/iraq/1998/02/20/98022006_tpo.html
"If you remember in 1991, Saddam Hussein invaded another country, he plagued it, he set fire to it, and he decided that he could control the region. Before that, he had gassed his own people. Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton's Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999
SOURCE: http://www.ccchronicle.com/back/99nov22/vp2.html
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983. If we fail to respond, Saddam and all those who follow will believe that they can threaten the security of a vital region with impunity. But if we act now as one, we will send a clear message to would-be tyrants and terrorists that we will do what it takes to protect our security and our freedom."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
SOURCE: http://www.usatoday.com/news/index/iraq/iraq172.htm
To illustrate Saddam's history of using weapons of mass destruction, William Cohen showed a national TV audience a picture of an Iraqi woman holding a dead child in her arms. He said they had been gassed by Saddam's forces. He described the picture as "Madonna and child, Saddam Hussein-style."

Now let's we take some time to hear from liberal "leaders" as they describe the serious threat Saddam's WMD's posed to the United States and the world. We'll start with the top Democrats in the House and the Senate:
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
SOURCE: http://www.house.gov/pelosi/priraq1.htm
But when it came time to stop the threat she describes, Pelosi made this statement. As you read it, keep in mind that inspections and diplomacy had failed for over a decade:
"Before going to war, we must exhaust all alternatives, such as the continuation of inspections, diplomacy and the leverage provided by the threat of military action."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Feb. 7, 2003
SOURCE: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0%2C2933%2C77694%2C00.html
"Look, we have exhausted virtually all our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so?"
- Sen. Tom Daschle (D, ND), Feb. 11, 1998
http://www.timeswrsw.com/V030803.HTM (Don't forget that Daschle co-sponsored the resolution that authorized President Bush to go to war against Saddam. Now he has joined Kerry in the Flip-Flop club.)
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
SOURCE: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/DL12Ak02.html
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandates of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them."
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
SOURCE: http://www.keepmedia.com/Register.do?oliID=225
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction. But there is again no persuasive evidence that air strikes alone over the course of several days will incapacitate Saddam and destroy his weapons of mass destruction. Saddam may well hide his most lethal weapons in mosques, schools and hospitals. There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein's regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed."
- Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
SOURCE: http://kennedy.senate.gov/~kennedy/statements/02/09/2002927718.html (I have it on good authority that the Senator was sober at the time he made this statement. Kennedy now says the war is a "fraud.")
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
SOURCE: http://www.hnn.us/comments/13437.html
"The U.S. should strike, strike hard and strike decisively. In this instance, the administration needs to act sooner rather than later."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Nov 14, 1998
Now the old Ku Klux Klansman sings a different tune:
"We stand today in the swirl of unanswered questions about this administration's intent with regard to an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack against the sovereign nation of Iraq. Perhaps the White House has the answers to the questions people are asking about why we may soon send our sons and daughters to fight and perhaps die in the sands of the Middle East."
-Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), April 20, 2003
SOURCE: http://www.americandaily.com/item/421
Gee, he didn't have any "unanswered questions" on his mind when Clinton made the following statement on national television about HIS unprovoked, pre-emptive attack against the sovereign nation of Iraq. (Many believe Clinton's attack was to get attention off of his impeachment following the Monica Lewinsky scandal.) I guess Byrd's conscience changes depending on whether a Democrat or a Republican is in the White House. Or perhaps he just forgot to take his nap before making such a ridiculous statement.
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
SOURCE: http://rockefeller.senate.gov/news/2002/flrstmt0102002.html
"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do"
- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002
SOURCE: http://www.house.gov/waxman/news_files/news_statements_res_iraq_10_10_02.htm
And of course this missive would not be complete without the words of the person I believe to be the most dangerous woman in the United States, Mrs. EX-President Clinton.
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

What can we learn from this? An American Indian might say, "They speak with forked tongues." The reason I spent so much time researching and verifying the actual words of these Democrats is so that you can hear from their own lips that they have no moral convictions.
If a Democrat president is for a war, they slavishly support him. But let a Republican succeed in getting America behind the same actions that Clinton tried to initiate, and he is an "incompetent liar who got America into the war on false pretenses". The Clinton administration's policy was that Saddam must be removed; they called it "regime change". But today the Democrats act as if Bush invented the term.
I really don't have a problem with liberals who have different views than mine and stick with them. I will point out where they are wrong, but I will respect them for having the courage to not waver from their convictions. Unfortunately, Joe Lieberman is one of the only liberals I know of who meets this standard. Most of the pack emulate their new leader, the Flip-Flop King John Kerry.
The reason that George W. Bush will be re-elected, and the reason many Democrats will be among those who vote for him, is that he is a man who has the courage of his convictions. That phrase means that he draws courage from knowing that his convictions are right and pure. Bush is not a perfect moral man, but he is far, far better than the amoral creature who is attempting to replace him.
I believe that America is smart enough to know that we have a righteous man in office who cares about America. They are not about to allow a man who scorns the religion and values of the vast majority of Americans to take his place.
