The Old School
By William Bailey (08/24/03)
It is not unusual to hear someone refer to themselves as being from “the old school”. Unfortunately, there is an (almost) immediate tendency to tie that reference to something having to do with age. And, of course, it’s more basic and fundamental than that.
Being from “the old school” has to do with a “state of mind” . . . a “state of ideals” . . . a “state of beliefs” . . . a “state of morals, values and principles.” And, really, very little to do with age. It has to do with a deep-rooted desire for a renewal of those foundations on which this Nation was created and on which its continued growth and success has been built.
Being from “the old school” has to do with things like personal responsibility, integrity, honesty, and those things inculcated in the vision of the Founders as they carefully and methodically went about the business of creating this Republic. (Please note that it is a Republic . . . NOT a democracy).
What we have seen accomplished by our much-loved country during her 200+ years of existence is, truly, a marvel. It is a clear example of what people who love freedom and liberty can do . . . once they set their minds and spirits to the task at hand.
As we have learned, however, there are those both outside this country and within, who would like to see this modern marvel of man’s existence brought down and crumbled. The outside forces struck in an horrific fashion on 9/11, and we will never forget not only the incident but what it did to us. And, we took action.
But, what about the forces within that have been constantly at work for decades to bring “us” down ? Have we paid the same amount of attention to, and shown the same level of concern for the horrific actions going on in that area ? It would seem not.
Again, I must refer to the statement that, “those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it”. And, again, I must point out that there has never been a nation state in the history of this world that, having achieved greatness, was defeated from without. It crumbled and decayed as a result of forces from within.
My friends who are Latin scholars tell me that the phrase, “Divide et impera” translated into English means, “Divide and Rule”. Look around, take stock of some of the things going on and see if you can’t detect concerted efforts aimed at divisiveness going on right now. And, of course, once our National concept of E Pluribus Unum (from many, one) falls, divisiveness has been declared the victor and we all lose.
Some would respond by saying, “No . . . that’s not what’s going on”. Well, I would beg to differ. In doing so, let me cite the following for your consideration.
In 1958, Cleon Skoussen (a former FBI agent) wrote a book entitled, “The Naked Communist”. In his book, he shared forty-five goals (also published in The Communist Manifesto) that had to be accomplished for “communism” to become the dominant force in the world. Now, before anyone jumps up and yells, “But, the “cold war” has been over for decades”, let me share just a few of those goals and you decide whether forces are still at work to bring down this “last best hope” for mankind. (They are numbered as they appear in the book).
“3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.”
“4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.”
“11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.
“16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.”
“24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them ‘censorship’ and a violation of free speech and free press.”
“25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.”
“27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with ‘social religion’. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a ‘religious crutch’.”
“28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of ‘separation of church and state’.”
“40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.”
These are, but, nine of the forty-five specifically identified goals. So, while the “cold war” may be over, forces are still at work to carry out what is contained within these objectives. And, unfortunately, a number have been, and are being, accomplished.
Those who really care about what’s been going on in this Nation for decades must wake up. If we don’t, we will be like Washington Irving’s “Rip Van Winkle” and when we do . . . we won’t recognize anything around us.
The next time you hear someone make reference to being from “the old school”, understand what they’re really saying. It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with the very foundations of this country and trying to stop the erosion.
