The Compassionate Left

Each new day seems to bring new examples of compassion among the compassionate left. Liberal democrats have long touted themselves the “party of compassion” while branding conservatives as “mean spirited, racists, hate mongers” and a wide array of other compassionate descriptions. Of course, the media is all too happy to fan the flames of conservative bashing. That’s all fine and good,… I, for one, hope they keep it up. I hope the left will continue to rake people like Trent Lott over the coals for innocent remarks. I hope they will continue to wrongly crucify the President with “war-monger” labels. I hope Hollywood actors will continue to belittle Alzheimer’s sufferers.
Why would I hope such things? Simple, when liberals tout their lofty hypocrisy, they are playing to the crowd of everyday working Americans who they see as being too ignorant to see through their transparency. Many people may fall into their trap. They may buy into the race baiting accusations that conservatives are all racists. They may believe that the liberals are the party of compassion. They may even fall for the tired old rhetoric that the Democratic Party is the party of the working class. But the reason why I hope these things continue is because I believe most people are much more perceptive than the left gives them credit for. Stand back and give the liberals enough time, they will invariably shoot themselves in the foot.
The latest example of liberal compassion took place at some “I love me” Hollywood event where actor George Clooney should his compassionate humanitarianism by making jokes at Alzheimer’s sufferer, Charlton Heston. When questioned about the remark, Clooney quipped: “I don’t care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association. He deserves whatever anyone says about him.” This statement epitomizes the liberal brand of compassion. If you disagree with us politically, you deserve whatever we say about you.
Americans are not idiots. Despite what the left may think. Most Americans see through this kind of cruel hypocrisy. Many even notice the absence of media outrage. Can you imagine someone like Babs Streisand being diagnosed with breast cancer and a conservative actor like Arnold Schwarzenegger making jokes about it? No doubt, it would end his acting career. He would be lambasted by the media until long after his death. But the leftist Clooney will get a free pass from the media for his tasteless indiscretion.
Another recent example was the endless ridicule of Senator Trent Lott. His now infamous statements at Strom Thurmonds’ birthday party were hardly meant as racist statements, but nonetheless, the comments cost Lott his political career. Do the liberals hold their own under the same principles? Hardly. Take for example, Senator Robert Byrd’s participation in the KKK. The average American citizen is intelligent enough to figure out, that is far more racist than anything ever uttered by Trent Lott. Or what about Jesse Jackson’s references to New York “Hymietown?” This racist jackass thinks Americans are too stupid to see through his hypocrisy. Unfortunately, many are.
The left has even tried, as they incessantly do, to redefine the recent remarks of President Bush regarding the University of Michigan entrance procedures. The current system used by the U. of M, which gives 20 extra points to Blacks, Hispanics and American Indians, but does not give extra points to other minorities such as oriental or Arab, is clearly a racist system, yet the left has diligently tried to make President Bush out as the racist. But where was the press when Mary Frances Berry, Democrat chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights, when she stated, “Civil rights laws were not passed to protect the rights of white men and do not apply to them.”
I say kudos to the left. Keep up the good work! Keep right on thinking Americans are too stupid to see your true colors. Keep right on thinking most people will never see who the real hate-mongers and racists are. We’ll keep right on welcoming the enlightened Americans over to our side.
