Nancy Pelosi Takes A Leak

If I were to ever contribute money to the Democratic Party, I would earmark the funds to go specifically toward acting lessons. In recent days, the Democratic tendency to lie, obfuscate and create mountains out of molehills has taken on an especially amusing quality.
There is the gnashing of teeth and yanking of hair, however the giant chompers are of the plastic Halloween variety and the hair is a cheap toupee. There is feigned outrage, but even those lefty members of Congress seeking to convey million-watt angst don't seem to believe what they are saying.
It is the "Chicken Little Effect." In this case though, the cries of the fryer-in-waiting are less than convincing. The sky is not falling over the revelation in a Robert Novak column that one Valerie Plame (wife of Clinton-era diplomat Joseph P Wilson IV) is a CIA employee. Democrats know this, and yet they are screaming that the Bush Administration is responsible for the leak. They imply that the Bush crowd "outed" Plame in revenge for Wilson's criticism of the Administration's war policies. They wish America to believe George W's boys committed a security breach which can only be rectified by stoning.
However, the fact of the matter is that the Libs are simply desperate for an issue that will throw some tar on George W as we head toward the Presidential Primaries. You see, there are currently no Democratic candidates for President who stand a snowball's chance of winning. Kerry has money, but he's an elitist snob who could easily star in a Frankenstein re-make if he hadn't had his neck bolts surgically removed. Edwards has good hair, but his speeches are little but the regurgitated pseudo-intellectual gruel of Al Gore. Dean's appeal comes from the fact that he hates everything and everyone. Clark makes big claims but goes nuclear at the slightest hint of criticism.
The Democrats fear four more years of Bush. They fear the continuation of a Republican Congress. They fear they will, once again, be illuminated as the losers they are. Thus, true to form, they are on this "leak" issue like a duck on a junebug.
Of course the inadvertent release of Plame's name was a mistake. However, even Novak himself has gone to great lengths in an attempt to clarify the situation. In his latest column, he explained the following:
"I would like to stress three points. First, I did not receive a planned leak. Second, the CIA never warned me that the disclosure of Wilson's wife working at the agency would endanger her or anybody else. Third, it was not much of a secret."
And that last line is the biggie. People in Washington already knew about Plame. The Democrats knew about her. The Republicans knew about her. My guess is that the third string waterboy for the Redskins knew about her. Technically this may have been a "leak," but it holds the same level of importance, and the same effect on the safety and security of the free world, as the leak in my kitchen faucet.
But that won't stop the Dems from demanding that heads must roll. Remember, they believe their only hope for taking back the White House is to paint George W as a destroyer of freedoms, as a heinous monster. They are forced to come up with lies because they can't find any real dirt on him or his people. The "drunk" thing didn't work. The "stupid" thing didn't work. The "incompetent" thing didn't work. Every false story that the liberals have thrown at Bush has blown up in their faces. Such being the case, they infer that he uses his office to take revenge on those who disagree with him.
Funny how many Clinton critics ended up being dragged through the mud, publicly humiliated, and at times, audited by the IRS. And even funnier how the Democrats either ignored that practice or wrote it off as sheer coincidence.
So now the Democrats, led by the likes of comrades Charles Shumer and Nancy Pelosi, seek an Independent Counsel to investigate this non-issue. They say John Ashcroft's Justice Department can't be trusted (though of course, Janet Reno's could). They say they want the truth, and that's the biggest lie of all. Truth is no longer a part of the Democratic Party platform.
The Dems know this tempest in a teapot will eventually be viewed as a slip of the tongue which hurt no one and caused no problems. The event doesn't matter, for their goal is to place doubt in the public's mind. They want a media circus, something that might improve their odds of winning some elections in 2004. They want to slander George W's character.
The plan will fail. The theatrics might be loud but they lack substance and talent. The Democrats think they are on the premiere of West Wing.
While all we see is a re-run of Gilligan's Island.
