Notes About The Democratic National Convention
By Michael P. Tremoglie (08/07/04)
The most notable speakers of the Tuesday night edition of the Democratic National Convention were Teresa Heinz-Kerry, who was the main speaker, Howard Dean who seemed to receive the most applause and Barack Obama, an Illinois State Senator, whose speech was electrifying, albeit disingenuous.
The wife of John Kerry, Teresa Heinz-Kerry made some fascinating statements. Her proclamations did not resemble the truth. Teresa said, “ my husband will not fear disagreement or dissent.”
Is this why there was no pro-life speaker permitted at the Democratic National Convention?
Teresa Heinz-Kerry also said her husband will protect our country without sacrificing civil liberties.
Is this is why a small business owner who displayed a Go Bush sign from the window of his business near the Fleet Center was told to remove it?
Protect the country without sacrificing civil liberties? The Democrats cannot stage a convention without sacrificing civil liberties.
Illinois State Senator Barack Obama, who is the Democratic Party’s candidate for United States Senator from Illinois, is called an African–American. However, Obama is half white. His father, who was black, abandoned him and his mother when he was about two years old. He lived with his white mother and white grandparents.
This concept of Barack Obama as a black person is interesting for a couple of reasons. Repeatedly referring to Barack Obama as an African-American continues the liberals’ habit of referring to anyone who is partially black as black.
Tiger Woods, Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, are all mixed race, however, they are always referred to by the liberal, mainstream media as black. In fact, Tiger Woods complained about this. Woods complaint was with good reason. He does not consider himself black. His mother is Asian.
Ironically, this custom by liberals and Democrats of referring to partially black people as black is simply a reiteration of the old racist, Jim Crow, one-eighth law. It used to be in Louisiana that persons with as little as one-eighth African-American ancestry were classified as black. It used to be in Missouri and Mississippi that, “The marriage of a white person with a negro or mulatto or person who shall have one-eighth or more of negro blood, shall be unlawful and void.”
By insisting that people who are half black be referred to as being black, liberals and Democrats are reiterating the one-eighth law. They are displaying their segregationist roots.
Obama spoke about eliminating the cynicism from politics. He mentioned that politicians and activists should not divide people into liberal and conservative and black and white.
Was Obama referring to Kweisi Mfume’s statement about black Republicans being ventriloquist dummies? It is doubtful. Was he thinking of the lies of Michael Moore who is idolized by Democrats? Probably not.
Barack Obama spouted some conservative themes of individual responsibility – such as stating that the government cannot teach kids how to read. Yet, Obama favors abortion, socialized medicine, and affirmative action, opposes a 2000 tax credit for retirement, gun ownership, mandatory sentencing and the death penalty.
Then there was Howard Dean who said, “I'd like a commander-in-chief who supports our soldiers and our veterans, instead of cutting their hardship pay when they're abroad, and their health benefits when they get home.”
The February 18, 2004 edition of Factcheck.org stated, “Bush’s first three years funding for the Veterans Administration increased 27%. And if Bush's 2005 budget is approved, funding for his full four-year term will amount to an increase of 37.6%. In the eight years of the Clinton administration the increase was 31.7%.”
Factcheck.org, which is “ a nonpartisan, nonprofit, "consumer advocate" for voters …to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, and news releases.…The Annenberg Political Fact Check is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.”
Hypocrisy, deceit, and lies are the hallmark of the modern Democratic Party. Although this Democratic National Convention is a very well packaged, slick advertising version of the Democrats, those characteristics are still apparent.
