To My Fellow Hispanics
By Jon Alvarez (09/20/04)
This is going out to all of my fellow Hispanic and Latino citizens. There are currently over 35 million of us living in the United States of America. Because of our sheer strength in numbers, we are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. Sadly, many of you refuse to take advantage of this opportunity to decide what kind of America we will leave our children simply by your refusal to participate in the political process. The right to vote, denied to so many around the world, is taken for granted by so many in this country, including you.
What is equally troubling to me is the widely held belief that most of you tend to support and vote for candidates belonging to the Democratic Party. Why on earth would you vote for and support candidates belonging to a political party that does not have your best interests in mind? Democrats not only care very little about what is best for you and your family, but also share few of the values that our culture holds most dear. The Democratic Party, the party of empty promises, does nothing except take you for granted. If you don’t believe me, just ask your African-American neighbors. Years of exploitation in the form of entitlement programs and social welfare have not helped this group of people. Instead, Democrats have spawned new generations of dependants that seem incapable of taking care of themselves.
Democrats, supported and led by liberal elites and career politicians who think they are better than you and that you exist to serve their needs, do not share the values that you and I cherish and hold most dear. These values have helped to make America a shining beacon of light and hope to so many around the world, including our ancestors who initially immigrated to this country.
Today’s Democrats appear to stand for:
· United Nations control over American foreign policy
· Class warfare
· Racial division
· Higher taxes
· Gay marriage
· Abortion
· Flag burning
· Anti-military attitudes
· The removal of all public reference to God
Are those representative of your values? We’ve witnessed over the past year that Democrats need the approval of the corrupt and inept U.N. with regards to American efforts to protect her citizens from the evils of terrorism. Democrats rely on the promotion of racial and class division within our great country in order to maintain their base of political power. America is a vast melting pot of races and cultures, where all who strive for it can achieve a better life. The only thing preventing one from succeeding in this great country is one’s own attitudes and beliefs, nothing else.
So why would you support a political party that has done nothing for you except make empty promises and offers of entitlement programs? All we have to do is look around to see the continued decline of traditional values within our culture. What kind of America do you want to leave for your children? If you wish to aid in the further decline of the greatest country in the world, then by all means, continue to support the Democrats and their agenda of social entitlements and division. My grandparents moved here in the 1930’s to escape the Spanish Civil War. Nothing was given to them, nothing was promised to them except the opportunity to make a life for themselves and their children in the greatest and freest country in the world. They learned English and thru hard work and self-reliance, made quite a life for themselves. America was built on hard work and self-determination, not government handouts. Those are values best represented by the Republican Party.
Many of you may be too busy working to get ahead in today’s America to actually go out and vote. Many of you may not even be registered to vote. However, I must stress to you how important it is to involve yourself in the political process in this country. Don’t allow yourself to continue to be taken for granted. As a Hispanic and a Republican who has taken an active role in politics, I invite you to join me in working to continue to make America the greatest country in the world in which to live. As a member of the Republican Party, you will be welcomed as an American citizen, not treated as a minority. Please, come on in!
