Praise The Lord And Pass The Turkey!
By Debbie Daniel (11/23/04)
Y’all come! The Thanksgiving feast is about to begin and it’s time to thank the good Lord. Let’s bless this bountiful gift from Him and savor every bite.
You know as well as I that it’s not all about food. Unlike the Pilgrims, we didn’t bring in a harvest of crops, but with the help of Almighty God, Christian people all over this land put “feet” to their prayers and “served-up” a plate full of optimism and a renewed spirit to be able to make a difference. “Hope” has been given to us . . . all with the blessing of God. And we can feast on this harvest for many years to come.
You can’t get any better than this. I feel the Lord Himself has spoken to each and every one of us: “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
It’s not that the liberals don’t pray to God, it’s just that they don’t like conservatives being so visibly outspoken about it . . . “wearing it on their sleeves.” When liberals demand their rights, they’re called Protesters. When conservatives demand theirs, they’re called Jesus freaks.
If both sides are praying to the Lord, how can you call one side Jesus freaks?
In the War for Independence in 1776, it was just a few days after Thomas Jefferson’s version of the Declaration of Independence had been approved that George Washington led his weary 8,000 soldiers through the dense fog of night into calm waters as they strategically moved past the enemy line with 20,000 plus British soldiers unaware.
That single move made the difference in our independence; we could have suffered a great loss.
Many of those soldiers believed God brought on the rain and fog so that they could cross safely and the enemy wouldn’t see them. They gave credit to Divine Direction, not good luck.
Why can’t we give credit to Divine Direction today? Do we believe God makes mistakes?
What will you be thanking God for on this Thanksgiving Day? The strategic move that conservatives exercised in this past Presidential election made the difference in a victory for so much more than a president. Yes, it was a victory for George Bush – but greater yet – it was a victory for families, for marriage, for morals, for decency, for Christian values and so much more.
Not only did George Bush receive a MANDATE, but Christians all over America were given a mandate, too. “We” are the nearly 60 million people who voted for this platform of Christian values.
We have been empowered; not to preach, not to lord anything over another, but we have been given permission to be ourselves . . . to be who we are.
For so long now, we have been made to feel that we were offending people by the very utterance of God’s name and even by the utterance of our own name, Christian. Now we know that we were the majority being suppressed by a minority.
We didn’t realize there was such a “bond of believers” out there. The network media did everything it could to keep us away from each other, but they failed.
This Thanksgiving is going to be like a family reunion of “kindred spirits.” As we sit at our tables and feast at the table of God’s blessings, we know that others out there are doing the same. Hallelujah! What a day of rejoicing!
Have you thanked the Lord? Have you thanked your President? Have we thanked our Christian friends? Sometimes we spend so much time in prayer that we forget about the “Thanksgiving.”
The Lord trusted us to do what we needed to do and we did it. So, there’s some “Shoutin’ Time of Joy” that’s due us.
But before we engage ourselves in too much “dancing in the end zone,” we need to offer first our thanks and gratitude to the Heavenly Father who oversaw it all. That’s what this holiday weekend is all about. A time of reflection and retrospection, and not forgetting who’s in charge.
We spent so many months on our hands and knees in prayer and supplication to the Lord that I still have to pinch myself to believe it’s true. He surely answered our prayers.
This man, George W. Bush, is no “Lame Duck President” – his horse bolted out of the starting blocks three weeks ago and has been at a full run ever since. He’s taking the scripture from Isaiah 40: 31 seriously: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as Eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”
There is no question he is God’s man for this time.
While there are those who are still trying to figure out what happened, George Bush is in forward motion. While the dust is still settling on those who’ve been kicking and screaming, George Bush is at full throttle. He needs our help. We can’t take any of this for granted.
So, praise the Lord and pass the turkey, we’ve got a job to do. Let’s get to work.
