The Battle Between Good And Evil

Back in July, I penned a column "Back in the U.S. of A..." (http://www.american-partisan.com/cols/2003/rollins/qtr3/0725.htm) In it, I wrote how joyous it was to be home from Canada, and that while many Canadian people were indeed first-rate like they are here at home, they had a government that's gone totally amok and is completely out of control, and like California, Canada was not going to hell in a handbasket, but had in fact already arrived there - years ago.
Perhaps it was even better put by Bill O'Reilly of FOX NEWS who, in his "Talking Points" memo (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,105242,00.html) on December 9th wherein he reviewed the latest Tom Cruise film "The Last Samurai", had this to say about our friends to the north:
"But if you want real life, consider comparing America, the most powerful nation the world has ever seen to Canada, our liberal friend to the north. Canada has wiped out its traditional approach to life and replaced it with a secular society. Church attendance is down drastically. The military there is so underfunded it might go bankrupt. And legalized drugs are now a reality.
This is what a secular society brings. Many Canadians are appalled, but the secularists have won. Canada is totally dependent on America for defense, even while it thumbs its nose at America's traditional values.
Over the next 10 months, Americans will have to make a decision what kind of country we want to be, traditional or secular. Outside of the war on terror, this is a major issue today. The samurai lost their quest for a traditional society. So did the Canadians. It'll be interesting to see if we do, too."
In my time there, the complete abhorrence by the majority of Canadian people for what Americans consider traditional values didn't go unnoticed. For those who say Americans and Canadians aren't different, guess again! Whereas cohabiting couples are something you see in America, it isn't commonplace in Canada as much as it is prevalent. Why? Because laws are structured there in such a manner to promote adultery after separation by providing tax advantages to couples 'shacking up'. How? By checking the "Living Common-law" box on their tax returns, they get the same tax benefits that legally married couples are entitled to - even if they're still legally married to someone else but aren't living with them anymore.
Such actions have helped accelerate the destruction of the Canadian family at levels the government has intentionally blinded themselves to. Why have they intentionally blinded themselves on this issue by either refusing to keep statistics or if they're keeping them, they're suppressing them? Asides from the 'politically correct' angle of not wanting to make anyone look bad (especially themselves), let alone require anyone to take responsibility for their actions, they need to justify an increasing number of social workers, juvenile and adult probation officers as well as other assorted bureaucrats - in other words, to put more people on unionized government gravy trains and raise personal income taxes beyond their already confiscatory levels, which in some cases exceed 55% of personal income.
In Canada, the high-earner surcharge kicks in at $62,500, which comes to $47,150 American. In the United States, the high income surcharge doesn't kick in until the taxpayer makes $250,000. Ever get the feeling a whole population is getting shafted here?
In ten years there, it seemed the more Canadian people at large were observed, the less impressive they were outside my circle of friends and colleagues. My involvement with local issues was nominal and in one particular case, it involved going up against the United Church of Canada, perhaps the most liberal church in the country, and an outspoken advocate of not only the homosexual community, they also seemed to be on the wrong side of every issue conservatives took a stand on. It seemed to be an instance of biblical prophecy being fulfilled where it says:
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20 - King James Version)
America has long been a traditional society and that's something Canadians born after 1937 have never been able to figure out, nor will they unless they live down here long enough to catch a glimpse of America's divine destiny as well as Canada's. The moves to secularize Canadian society - most notably by Liberal governments beginning with the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau and continuing to this day are largely responsible for the moral decline of Canadian society over the last 40 years. It has fostered a climate where 'political correctness' has laid siege to such a degree where no escape from its destructive grip may be available anytime soon, if ever.
With the current government philosophies in place, may God have mercy on the next generation, for they may very well be Canada's last unless radical changes are made - and fast.
