Fight Pollution - Of The Public Airwaves

We hear a lot about pollution of our air and water. I believe these concerns deserve our attention (although many of the protestors are hysterical purveyors of junk "science", and thereby hurt their own causes). But the Bible says, "Be not afraid of those who kill the body.but fear rather him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28) The one who can destroy the soul is Satan, and his servants in this task are the networks that pollute the airwaves that belong to all Americans with visual filth.
Hollywood has become the gatekeeper of American culture, and it has used this power to lower standards so far that there are no real standards left.
Movies that just a few years ago would have been rated "X" are now shown in prime time. Programming promoting homosexuality, drug use, adultery and abortion is common.
The Bravo channel runs ads bragging that their channel is "Twice as queer," because it is running a lesbian equivalent to its "Queer eye for the Straight Guy" series. (Isn't it interesting that homosexuals take offense at being called homosexuals, insisting that we call them "gay"; but that they refer to one another as "queers"?)
If you ask the Hollywood types if there is an anti-Christian, anti-family, anti-conservative values agenda is that demonic city, they reply with an emphatic, "No!" But look at the evidence.
Stephen Bennett is a Christian recording artist, speaker and evangelist who USED to be a homosexual., but was delivered from his life of perversion by the Lord. This is how he describes the bias of CBS: "Our 45 minute interview was cut down to less than 60 seconds. I obviously knew CBS would not air everything - but choose a few clips. However, CBS deliberately left out the most important point of the whole 45 minutes - they never mentioned that I WAS 'gay.' They said only we were a family who for 'religious reasons' took a stand against same-sex marriage. I mentioned my Christian testimony only once in the beginning of the interview -- and did not bring it up again. Yet CBS had an axe to grind and tried to make people of faith who oppose homosexuality look like 'religious bigots' and 'homophobes' - to suit their one sided story." (See LINK below.)
The major movie studios contend that they do not create culture, but instead reflect it. They say that sexually explicit and violent content is what America wants. Joe Camp, the successful independent film producer-director and screenwriter who brought the lovable dog-hero Benji to the big screen calls such arguments "patently ludicrous." According to AgapePress.com, the family-friendly producer is "concerned about the decline of values in the movie industry. That's why he's urging Christians to boycott Sunday's broadcast of the Academy Awards." (See LINK below.)
Hollywood is also dominated by God-haters who consistently portray Christians as devious, stupid liars who prey on innocent and simple-minded people. Television personality Bill Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," says, "We are a nation that is unenlightened because of religion. I do believe that. I think that religion stops people from thinking. I think it justifies crazies. I think flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative."
Please don't think that this sick man, who believes that "flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative," is alone. Most of Hollywood's decision makers, including studio heads, producers and the most influential actors and directors share his views. In fact, anyone who identifies himself as religious or conservative in Hollywood is persecuted.
Evan Maloney, a filmmaker who has been frozen out of Hollywood because he doesn't share the prevailing culture there, says, "Being a conservative Christian in Hollywood today is like it used to be if you were identified as gay a few decades ago." Actresses who refuse to do sexually explicit scenes are blacklisted. Directors who don't toe the line find themselves without work.
What is the answer? Pray that decent people will start to take leadership roles in Hollywood. Hollywood was not always associated with filth. It used to produce decent content that honored God, supported the family, and supported our nation. That can happen again.
We can also do the American thing and vote with our checkbooks. Let advertisers on filthy programs know that you will not be buying their products - and then follow through by buying alternative products from companies that advertise on family-friendly programs.
I have one other suggestion. Filth is not going to go away, because there are so many sick people who want it, and because our courts are too cowardly to stop it. But with the advent of cable and satellite programming, there are specialty channels for just about every interest. We have the Golf Channels and the Gourmet Channel, among many, many others. Why not make the perverts put all their stuff on a Filth Channel instead of on the public airwaves?
Remember two important facts. The airwaves belong to the public. And the majority of the public does NOT want filth on our airwaves any more than you do. Once we take hold of those two facts, we will take action. And Hollywood will discover that it can no longer guide our nation's culture toward the sewer.
