Gun Grabbers Silent No More!
By Doug Hagin (05/03/05)
Liberal ideology is firmly based upon the principle that people are evolved from nothing, into needy, helpless creatures that must have a large government (a liberal one of course) take care of them. The right to self-defense is in direct conflict of this liberal philosophy. This said, one must note a deafening silence from this nations gun control supporters over the past few years.
In 2000, the Democratic party, decidedly âanti-gun ownerâ , finally figured out that bashing gun owners and attempting to subvert the Constitution was costing them any hope of regaining power in Washington. So, they put their radical views on gun ownership, the Constitutional guarantee to keep and bear arms, and self-defense on the back burner.
Gun control groups turned their rhetoric way down, candidates who had once supported gun control zipped their lips on the topic, and the debate, for the most part went away. That trend has continued through the 2002 mid-term elections and the 2004 presidential race as well. Of course, Democrats have not ceased their anti-gun feelings or intentions; they simply know itâs a losing argument, and have stopped arguing.
Just this past week however, the volume over gun control and self-defense rights was suddenly turned back up. Sarah Brady and other gun control activists were back in the public eye demonizing gun and concealed carry laws. So what was it that reawakened their fight?
Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL), a conservative supporter of supposedly right-wing ideals, such as the right to self defense, signed a brand new law on April 26. This law allows law-abiding Floridians with concealed carry permits to use deadly force to protect themselves from violent criminals, even in public. Formerly, those Floridians had a responsibility to flee if accosted outside their homes.
Sounds very much like a common sense law doesnât it? Who could possibly argue that innocent people hold no right to defend themselves just because they are accosted on a street or ally? Well of course, liberals could, and are making the argument against this new law that serves notice to violent criminals that the law will no longer protect them, but their intended victims instead.
Quite predictable, those opposed to the new law are in full hyperbole mode. They are predicting a âwild westâ atmosphere, shootouts in the streets, increases in crime - and likely that the law causes tooth decay and obesity.
Take a listen to just a small sampling of the non-sense being spewed by the gun grabbers, who seemingly abhor our right to self-defense more than they abhor violent crime. Sarah Brady, the queen of the anti-gun zealots, decried the new law as a âterrible, terrible mistakeâ that would surely turn Florida into âan almost uncivilized society.â WOW! I guess allowing a criminal to have his way would be considered âcivilizedâ?
Brady continued to attack the new law, saying "The Florida law has gone so far that it almost encourages people to see a necessity to do this." "Having my husband a victim and seeing how it destroys families, what's happening in Florida is there are going to be more innocent victims. What I'm worried about is an escalation in violence. It opens the door for that to happen." The unmistakable message from the far-left in America maintains that we hold no right to protect ourselves, our loved ones or our property from those who would do us harm.
Sarah Brady was not alone in her liberal outrage over Floridians having the right to self-defense. Consider the words of Rep. Dan Gelber, (D-FL). âTwo people in an altercation, that happens every day. Someone thinks you're looking at their wife the wrong way, somebody spills coffee on you, someone bumps into you, someone cuts you off, then all of a sudden they're in a fight," said Gelber, a former federal prosecutor. "Do we tell those people that they're supposed to walk away, or do we tell them that you're supposed to stand your ground and fight to the death?"
It is apparent Rep. Gelber did not fully read nor comprehend this legislation. If he had, he would know it stipulates for use of force ONLY if the victim feels in immediate danger. Yet, as the liberal he is, when a new law upholds the right to own guns, he exaggerates.
In every state that has a concealed carry law, liberals predicted blood in the streets, wild west-like shootouts, escalations of shootings, and on and on. In every single one of those states, they have been proven dead wrong. Yet, they never learn. Like a confused bird that keeps flying into a closed window, liberals refuse to learn from their mistakes.
Is anyone really surprised that liberals have again entrenched to try to defend an intellectually untenable position? Your gun and the right to self-defense threatens their ideology. The more self-reliant you are and the more you are able to defend yourself, the less power liberals have over your life.
