Illegal Immigration
By Karl Weinberg (05/20/05)
We are told daily in the local media and the national press how bad the illegal aliens are being treated in this country. The media, most of which are not of the mainstream of America, opine in their editorials and their supposed news stories of the many hardships these people go through each and every day. We are treated to the stories of how these illegal aliens come here and attend our public schools, but when they graduate many do not get the benefits of moving on to college to make a better life for themselves. We are whined to how they need drivers’ licenses in order to have identification so they can get to and from their jobs and get government assistance. We hear about how they have to go to the emergency rooms in order to get their health care when they are ill. All the while the reporter (s) editorialize how we should pay for these people because it is for the common good.
Over and over we are told these people should have a say in the communities in which they reside. They should be able to vote in local elections. They should be able to serve on the school boards because they have children in the schools. What we are seeing are politicians pandering to the illegal alien voting block. We must put a stop to this pandering. We must find a way to remove illegal immigrants from our midst.
When are the American people going to rise up and put a stop to this flood of illegal aliens that come across our boarders each and every day? When will my Party, the Republican Party, stand up for our country and support locking down our borders to people that do not belong here? When are we going to round these people up, many who have been here for many years and send them back to their respective countries so they can file for immigration the way my Great Grand parents did, legally.
For many years we have allowed our government, both Parties, to pander to the illegals that tramp across our unsecured borders. They allow business people to hire illegals to do work that many Americans will not do. I understand that in this country we have jobs that legal Americans are just to damn lazy to do.
Now many of you are going to start the clucking about how I am a xenophobe. That is your right. I am going to be accused of being a mean person who does not wish to see these people have a better lifestyle. You are very wrong. I have no problem with people coming to my Great country legally. There is a system for entering this country. My relatives came here from Europe in the early part of the 20th century. They went through Ellis Island and had to be poked, prodded and berated as people coming here to take American jobs. But they came here through the system, not around or under it. We cannot allow people to just waltz across our borders and set up shop here. We are a country that believes in the rule of law.
Most of the illegal aliens that come here I am sure are hard working, nice people. But it is that element that wants to come here and destroy our way of life that must be stopped. We must be able to track those that come here. We must have some record of their whereabouts. With the way immigration is now set up in the United States, we do not know where most of these illegal aliens are or what they are doing.
I am very concerned with the President’s proposal to give work visas to those that are already here. During the Reagan administration we allowed illegals to stay and apply for citizenship. Call it what you will but it was amnesty. Why did we reward people for breaking the law? This is exactly what will happen if the president signs off on this visa idea. We should not be rewarding those who break the law by coming here illegally. We should not be rewarding those who come here on visas and just never go home.
We need to contact our representative in Congress and tell them we want our borders secured. We want to stop illegal aliens from coming here and remove those who are already here. We must put a moratorium on immigration for five or ten years so we can document those that are here and send them home if they are not supposed to be in our country.
