EVEN TERRORISTS GET THE BLUES
By Ron Marr (06/25/05)
I have sort of a litmus test for political issues. If Jimmy Carter is against it, chances are I should be for it. Because Carter is always wrong, he is never wrong. The man is the idiot savant of backwards land. When Peanut Boy bares his tiny little fangs and castigates an idea, you can rest assured it's because the idea holds firm principles, will produce results and is designed to enhance the goals of America.
Thus, when Jimmy called for the closure of Guantanamo Bay's prison, I immediately realized the Gitmo interrogations were delivering intelligence integral to the battle against terrorism. That he was joining Amnesty International and Illinois Senator Dick Durbin in the assertion only confirmed my supposition that Gitmo is proving an extraordinarily effective tool.
Jimmy suffers from a virulent strain of insecure, apple-polishing liberalism which causes its victims to lack personal convictions and become obsessed with the opinions of others. He wants to be liked, and thinks the way to achieve that goal is to knuckle under at every opportunity. He's a pawn who commands zero respect.
Amnesty International, which called Gitmo a gulag, is more honest in their motivation. Their organization is staffed by socialists, communists, thugs and tin-pot whiners who simply hate the success of the United States. They are jealous of our wealth and their allegations resemble schoolyard taunts more than reality.
Dick Durbin, now he's just a Senatorial bench warmer and never-was who likes seeing his name in the papers. He's the Congressional equivalent of what you get when - to paraphrase James Carville - you drag a $100 bill through the trailer park. Durbin compared the troops manning Gitmo to Nazis, Stalin and Pol Pot. His idiocy speaks for itself.
The rants of this latter day version of Larry, Mo and Curly wouldn't even rate notice if the press didn't despise George Bush. Comments which don't deserve two lines next to the obituaries are splashed across the front page, in the hope some of the sewage will splatter on the White House steps. In the immediate, for ramping up supporters of the liberal agenda, the tactic is effective.
But keep this in mind. The Democrats will always play to the lowest common denominator, and the present strategy is to convince their slacker voting base that the war is not really a war. They know your garden-variety liberal is endowed with short-term thinking, not to mention fed up with the horrendous insult of having to wait an extra five minutes to get through airport security. The fact that there been no attacks on our soil since 9/11 is twisted into a bizarre rationalization which could be annihilated by a four year old. To any thinking person, the absence of further attacks is rightfully viewed as the fruits of vigilance. To the Democratic base, the absence of further attacks is proof that we are not in danger of attack.
But the question of Gitmo rages on. Bill Clinton has joined the hue and cry for closure, which is the liberal version of a Pope's blessing. The left is raving about the unspeakable tortures, the detestable conditions. Most of this "evidence" of torture comes via a log kept during the interrogation of Mohammad al-Kahtani (who was supposed to have been the fifth hijackers of United Airlines flight 93) and a "secret" FBI memo which Dick Durbin refuses to make public.
One form of torture cited by Durbin involved turning the air conditioning up so the cell became cold. Another included turning the air conditioning off, so the cell was over 100 degrees. Dick should spend a summer in the Ozarks, as such a spike of the mercury is common at my cabin. Other "tortures" included making the terrorist stand or sit in a single position for long periods, playing Christina Aguilera music, pouring water over the killer's heads when they refused to drink, making them view pictures of scantily clad centerfolds and (horrors) consuming orange glazed chicken and apple spice cake.
Oh...the humanity...
It seems the Democrats don't know the difference between torture and discomfort. The former is agonizing. The latter is a bit like a severe case of the blues. Then again, since the Democratic leaders come from the perspective that murderers and rapists in American prisons are really victims of society, maybe we shouldn't be surprised. Still, enduring moderate cold and heat seems a little less harsh than Islamic interrogation methods. These include (but are certainly not limited to) being fed into a wood chipper, having your head cut off, and being hung from the ceiling with piano wire while hot jumper cables are applied to your genitals.
Having to stand in one place for a few hours is somewhat less draining than having to stand in one place for a few hours after your leg has been broken in 12 places. Having to look at pictures of naked women causes less optic damage than having a hot soldering iron stuck in your eye. Having water poured over your head is downright refreshing compared to having battery acid thrown in your face. I'm not sure what delicacies the Islamic chefs whip up, but I'm pretty certain excrement under rat is a staple.
And as for all this nonsense about mishandling of the Koran, ask me if I give a damn. The Democratic Senators who become outraged when a Koran is kicked are the same one who have a Gran Mal seizure if someone dares place a nativity scene on the courthouse lawn. If these Democrats weren't such hypocrites, they would go to the Supreme Court and demand justice. After all, isn't allowing the Koran at Gitmo as much a violation of church and state as allowing prayers in the locker room? Both facilities are funded with taxpayer dollars, so what's the difference?
The difference, is that the Democratic leadership does not want us to win the war on terror. They do not want American to be strong, not if strength and victory come under Republican leadership. Success would mean that George Bush proved them wrong.
To a liberal, that's the worst torture of all.
