Blame America First syndrome
By Brian Yates (06/27/05)
Beltway elitists and liberals all across America have been foaming at the mouth over White House advisor Karl Rove’s comparison of conservative and liberal reactions to September 11th.
Speaking at a New York fundraiser, Rove told the crowd, “Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and prepared for war, liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.”
Liberals, quite predictably, lost their tofu lunches upon hearing the comment. Senate Democrats suggested that Rove should consider resigning and DNC chairman Howard Dean demanded that the president “condemn Karl Rove.” (Howard Dean lecturing anyone on diarrhea of the mouth is like Bill Clinton offering marital advice.)
The Left, whose entire contribution to the war on terror has consisted of comparing George W. Bush to Hitler and demanding trial by Robert Blake jury for all detained terrorists, cried foul when Rove dared to point this out. Meanwhile, the fact that we’re dealing with a rabid bunch of Muslim terrorists hell-bent on destroying our way of life apparently escapes them.
They accuse the Bush administration of treating terrorists inhumanely because we drip water on them. Meanwhile, between the Super Soaker water games, we serve them orange-glazed chicken and offer them a complimentary Koran to read in between their soccer games.
Amnesty International, a liberal human rights (for terrorists) group recently released its 2005 report on world human rights. It blasted the United States for (hold your breath) not granting captured terrorists their constitutional right to a lawyer. The fact that these same people have devoted their life to a jihad against that very Constitution that is now supposed to grant them rights and privileges apparently escapes the jello-spined folks at Amnesty.
Further in their report, Amnesty breathlessly reported that “the activities of the CIA in Iraq…remained largely shrouded in secrecy.”
Imagine that! The jackals at CIA don’t want the terrorists to know exactly how they’re being spied upon.
Ask any third-grader who the bad guys are and they’ll point to Mohammed Macmoud Ali bin Terror. Ask a liberal and they’ll nearly knock you over pointing at George W. Bush.
A who’s who of Democratic heavyweights from former president Bill Clinton to Senate minority leader Harry Reid to the tearful Dick Durbin have demanded the administration close Gitmo and stop interrogating terrorists. We’re too mean, they whine.
Instead of worrying about our treatment of terrorists, Clinton and the ilk should ponder how the terrorists treat us when we’re captured. The only way we’re served orange-glazed chicken is if it’s shoveled down the stump of our neck after being beheaded in primetime on al-Jazeera.
What would be the Amnesty International response if Bush used their tactics? (He could even use al-Jazeera’s U.S. affiliate, CNN.)
The Left, so intent on making America out to be the bad guy, isn’t nearly as critical of backwoods countries around the globe where freedom and liberty – of their own citizens – is an unknown concept.
Visit Amnesty International’s website and the first headline seen demands that America “stop torture” in the war on terror. There’s even a picture of a hooded terrorist for added emphasis. Countries such as China, for instance, fail to merit similar hyperventilation.
In fact, Amnesty praises China for making “progress towards reform.” The Chinese people; however, might disagree with Amnesty’s conclusion, but they likely will never see the report. Why? Because China censors the internet.
A recent AP story said that “users…get a scolding message each time they input words deemed taboo by the communist authorities – such as democracy, freedom, and human rights.”
“Prohibited language in text, please delete,” web surfers are told.
People who own or maintain a website are required to register with the government and anyone posting “content deemed subversive” is subject to prison.
Ah yes, real “progress towards reform” there.
But the Left in America today is willing to give China a free pass. When was the last time you can remember Dick Durbin shedding tears on the Senate floor over China’s human rights violations? Quick, name the Democrat who has compared the Chinese government to a Nazi concentration camp or called their country a “gulag.”
Time’s up. You can’t name one because there hasn’t been one.
Calling out others on their abuses is simply not a sexy story. But blaming America first guarantees you prime placement on all the Sunday morning talk shows
