The Nice, The Trivial and The Important

In Scotland the leaders of the G-8 countries are holding meetings to discuss certain matters. Some of the matters are of some importance and some are of little importance other than to give the participants a forum in which to pontificate and appear statesman-like. While this is going on, a group of protesters is displaying their ignorance and incivility and thereby giving liberal pundits more opportunity to blather about the things liberals love to blather about. Then the bombs went off in London and innocent people died and were horribly injured for no purpose other than to terrorize civilization into surrendering to evil. Hopefully the explosions in London will draw back into focus the predominant threat to civilization today. And that threat is not global warming or poverty in Africa, but it is the aggressive and ruthless expansion of totalitarian evil.
Poverty in Africa is real and it is pervasive. But simply giving more billions of dollars of other people’s money will not eradicate it. Such aid has done little or nothing over the years except to find its way into the pockets of too many dictators and corrupt bureaucrats. Poverty and disease have been with us since the beginning of time and will be with us to the end of time. We can help those in need in our communities and our nation and be reasonably confident that our help will truly make a difference. When the aid takes the form of dollars that are anonymous and sent to nations far away and not subject to effective administration by the donors, the effectiveness is quickly lost and the billions of dollars become like straw in the wind. This kind of aid is nice to talk about on the talk shows and at cocktail parties and makes many feel “nice” inside to think that they are so enlightened and charitable (even if with other people’s money). The aid for Africa agenda item is “nice” for some people because it allows them to polish their image and tell themselves that they are wonderful for their caring attitude.
The global warming agenda item at the G-8 conference, despite all the clamor from the press and the protesters, is trivial. Climate changes have occurred over the millennia that were more significant than anything we are now experiencing and that were not caused by humans, since none existed during much of that time. Today there are strong disagreements about the science underlying the various “global warming” theories among scientists who are knowledgeable about the subject. Yet in spite of the lack of verifiable facts or confirmation of the various theories, many want to enact laws that will stifle economic activity and adversely impact many millions in the world. Again, those who want to impose their will on the rest of us, based largely on “junk science”, will “feel good” about themselves and can parade their compassion for all to see (even if they have to throw a brick through a window or club a police officer to get their point across). In the face of what science we do “know” for a verifiable fact and the insignificance of man’s creations in relation to the earth’s climate, the issue is truly trivial.
The London explosions vividly exposed the issue that is truly important today—the battle between free civilizations and the forces of anarchy and evil. Real people are dying and being maimed at the hands of vicious killers for no reason other than the hatred these assassins have of freedom and democracy. These radical destroyers of civilization must laugh at those devoting their time and energy to protests supporting “nice” projects and “trivial” programs and treaties while they systematically go about their business of trying to kill as many innocents as possible in order to terrorize the majority into inaction.
Barbarians have brought down civilizations before when the citizens being attacked lacked the will to resist and could not be galvanized into action by effective leaders. What makes this time in history different is that the forces of evil and anarchy are able to enlist so many seemingly intelligent and free people to assist them in achieving their objectives by manning the barricades in the streets and the printing presses and TV studios in much of the western world.
