Hillary pushing to censor blogs and news sites

In 1998 Hillary clearly stated that the Internet needed a gate keeping function. Her premise was that the Internet is 'out of control'. It was a clear statement that was a mark for what is happening as we speak.
this is a very problematic situation for many reasons. If we, as bloggers are to follow this proposed process we would be required to register our blogs, and be held accountable if we report things that are not considered acceptable. We wouldn't even be allowed to publish unless we were selected, and approved to do so. Remember, the Internet is considered electronic media.
The McCain-Feingold Act of 2002 empowers federal judges and Federal Election Commissioners to determine who is allowed to say what about political candidates in all electronic media. On Sept. 18, 2004, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ordered the FEC to extend its enforcement of McCain-Feingold to the Internet.
In the face of a massive outcry from bloggers, the FEC backed down from fully implementing Judge Kollar-Kotelly's order. However, the order stands. Sooner or later, it will be enforced.
CNN has a session daily where they acknowledge bloggers both left and right. They've realized just how powerful the blogosphere is. It's powerful because it's a global community that has the ability to look past biased corporations and corrupt politicians. It allows us to get information about many subjects we would otherwise forced to watch on the nightly news. We learn about stories sometimes before they break. The blogosphere had a marked responsibility to the presidential election last year. It's clearly going to do the same in 2008. Hillary Rodham Clinton is going to focus on putting this in place before the election. If she can do that she'll use the same strong arm tactics and intimidation that she's used in the past. If you don't believe this just ask Ed Klein. Ask him how many scheduled appearances were canceled.
You and I are the public. We are the ones that utilize the Internet and rely on it for truthful news. Thankfully we have efforts such as www.moveoff.net which take the rare stance of taking the side of the freedom of the country. Not republican or democrat. We need effort like this to ensure us the information we need is always going to be out there. Not just what a government agency deems 'acceptable'.
It will be a sad day if and when this ends. Hopefully we have enough power in the blogosphere to force our government to understand our position and respect it. Most of us do not profit by posting news on blogs, and a lot of news sites. We do it because we believe there is a fundamental responsibility to point out things that may not be clear to everyone. We read more blogs than we write, and we gather information the same way as the people do that read them.
