Hillary to take on video game manufacturer

"A Washington, DC press conference Thursday will see the New York Senator call for a Federal Trade Commission inquiry into the San Andreas mod" (a game modification for the video game Grand Theft Auto. The mod opens sexually explicit circumstances). This launch will set a dangerous precedent if we aren't very careful of how we approach this.
The gamespot website covered this today saying "Clinton, a vociferous critic of violence in the media, will be joined by David Walsh, president and founder of the National Institute on Media and the Family; Mary Bissell, fellow at the New America Foundation; and Kiersten Stewart, director of public policy for the Family Violence Prevention Fund"
Accusing a video game for influencing a child to kill someone seems a bit over the top. Shouldn't the parents of the child be held more responsible for the crime than the game maker? In the inquiry part of the accusation is that while this game is rated "M" for mature audiences (17 years or older) it's easily available online.
To have Rockstar Games be held as the responsible party leaves us to say without question that the parents aren't liable, a company that clearly stated on the game that it was meant for mature audiences and should not be sold to minors. Is this to mean that adult style video games stop being made? The same argument can be made. This is much more than just a suit against a game company. This is a threat to our freedom. It's our right to decide what is acceptable for ourselves. This type of issue really begins to look like communism.
Is it right that children should be exposed to this? Is it right there is nudity on TV? Is it right that there is sexual situations on every major television network? When does our right to decide come in?
What influences a child more? A video game he plays, or the day to day life of his parents? Children learn their behavior from their parents and siblings. While there may be some small tie to the association, a child that takes the killing of another human based on the theme of a video game should never have been in public in the first place. That doesn't mean the product should be removed from society, it means the child should.
