Head Shot: The London Tube Incident
By Bonnie Chernin Rogoff (07/24/05)
The shooting death of a tall Brazilian man in a London tube station by British police on Friday July 22, 2005 may be the single most important event in the War on Terror. It marks a bold demarcation between a war of politically-correct words versus a war of action against the worldwide scourge of evil terrorist attacks against innocent civilians. Suddenly, Tony Blair and the British people have looked into the mirror and finally denied the famous words of cartoon character Pogo Possum, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” Their true enemy is Islamic fascistic militants doing clandestine operations in hidden terror cells.
Even London’s socialist mayor, Ken “Red” Livingstone was forced to admit that shooting potential suicide bombers in the head before they can detonate their deadly explosives is the correct response. This is quite a change in attitude for a vocal terror apologist and appeaser. Livingstone is realizing the actual and attempted bombings are occurring dangerously close to London’s City Hall.
Unfortunately it has just been announced that the person shot dead by London police in a tube station was not connected to the recent wave of bombings. He was under surveillance as he left his flat and entered the tube station. After ignoring police instructions to halt he was wrestled to the floor and shot dead. The event is truly regrettable and his family must be compensated. Police restraint is key; however, this one shooting should not shift the focus from away from aggressive police action. Too many lives are at stake. Had the victim been a suicide bomber, the results may once again have been horrific for London’s commuters.
A miscreant Islamic fascist Imam, Omar Bakri Mohammed has been living in London since 1986. This jihadist has been collecting British welfare payments while preaching the most virulent hatred against the West. Jihad Watch quotes Bakri as saying in April 2004 that al-Qaeda Europe “has a great appeal for young Muslims, I know they are ready to launch a big operation.” The recent events of July 7 and 22, 2005 indicate his words have come to fruition. The Times of London reports that two of Bakri’s students left Britain in 2003 to take part in a Hamas suicide attack in Israel. The July 23, 2005 edition of the New York Post quotes Bakri as saying that Osama bin Laden “is a sincere man who fights against evil forces.” Why the British have not yet deported this monster is puzzling.
Fortunately the London jihadists of July 22, 2005 failed miserably in their attempts to replicate the July 7, 2005 bombings. Their images were caught on security cameras in tube stations and a double-decker bus and flashed across the globe within hours. As of today, British anti-terror squads have captured three of the four suspects. This was accomplished because the British have installed over 6,000 security cameras in their massive transit network and used the images to quickly identify the potential terrorists. New York City in comparison has only 17 security cameras installed and an army of ACLU lawyers ready to pounce if these numbers are increased. Much to the chagrin of these leftists, the number of security cameras and other security devices will quickly grow in response to the London terror bombings.
New York City Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly have instituted random baggage checks for persons attempting entry into the subway system. Perhaps due to the upcoming mayoral election in November, both the mayor and police commissioner have vowed that no racial profiling will be implemented with regard to these inspections. A quick reality check shows that four of the July 7 suicide bombers were young males, three were Pakistani and one was Jamaican. The four July 22 individuals that attempted to detonate bombs were also males of Middle Eastern or Asian decent. It is asinine to deny the obvious, although women suicide bombers have been used against the Israelis and in Russia by Chechnya separatists. Police agencies should use both a profile plus random checks to ensure maximum benefit and deterrence. Race baiters and their liberal allies must be ignored to ensure the safety of our citizens.
The significance of the police shooting cannot be ignored as Britain under pressure can be forced back to a policy of apology and appeasement, or it can remain strong against the continuing threat of terror. Yesterday’s bombings in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt highlights again that terrorists have no boundaries or regards for human life and must be destroyed by all means necessary.
