"...an utterly corrupt new religion called environmentalism..."
If the history of this planet's climate over millions of years is any guide, we are about to enter a new ice age.

Charting the Democratic Peace
By R J Rummel (07/26/05)
Due to the helpful comments and suggestions I received in my first attempts to reduce the democratic peace Q&A to one page (I gaped at my monitor when that was first suggested) front and back, I've gone through a number of drafts. Draft V.6.1 of the front is viewable on line here. If you have a problem reading the text, decrease the resolution of your screen. The pdf download is available here. .
Then there is the question of the backside. Anonymous suggested a listing of historical dyadic wars with indication by color-coding as to the type of governments involved. This would be a considerable project, for which I have no assistants. But, Anonymous nicely volunteered to help, for which I'm grateful.
I considered this and what would be of most value to the person new to the democratic peace idea, and decided that better than raw data would be the figures and plots that summarized such data. Moreover, a display of all warring dyads through history would leave no room on the backside for other data. So, I've gone the figure and table route, arranging figures and tables in a way to illustrate the findings on various democratic peace propositions. Version 4 of the backside is here, and the pdf download is here. (If you are having a problem accessing the files/images, be patient. The university computer was down all day Saturday, and since it has come on line, some images do not show. They will eventually).
As you will see, the front page wastes little space. I did this by enlarging the font and removing tables and figures that can go on the backside. The one figure that remains is most appropriate in showing the growth and decline in democracy and autocracy (authoritarian and totalitarian governments) since 1900.
On the backside, there seems blank space that could have been used. But, there is a problem in trying to fill this in. Note that I grouped the figures and tables under the appropriate democratic peace proposition. Some empty space was therefore inevitable. I suppose one can tweak these figures and tables in a way to make the overall fit look better, and if you want to try, I'll send you the Photoshop TIFF file with layers. (Likewise, I can send you the MS WORD file for the front page, which contains everything but the time series chart (I exported the page to Photoshop to insert the chart)
Note also that on the figures and tables I have included the source by name and where possible by publication. The was not enough space to include the usual stuff beloved of the researcher, such as data criteria, definition, qualifications, methodology, and all that. Usually, one can find the particular number table or figure (e.g., Figure 4.1) by going to the book (if mine, it is probably on my website -- see book list here), looking up the list of figures and tables, and finding the page it's at). If names are only given, such as Melvin Small and J. David Singer, one can find their publications on the internet or probably in my democratic peace bibliography here.
All has been grammar and spell checked, which because of my tendency to replace one word with a correctly spelled typo ("It looks like it will ran outside"), only means the most egregious errors are probably eliminated.
Don't let that these are the 4th and 6th drafts discourage you from making suggestions or comments. Blogs and website considered, I can't think of anything more important to do than a good job on this chart. After all folks, we have here the solution to war, democide, famine, and impoverishment. Crazy? Simplistic? Exaggeration? Look at the chart front and back.
What is to be done with this, when by universal acclaim it is as good and useful as humans can achieve? I'll print out both sides on letter sized photo paper, take them to a print shop, have them glued together, and laminated. Once I determine the cost, I may try to publish it in some way so that students have it available through their bookstores. In any case, it will always be a free download from my website.

The United States Is Being Overthrown By Our Politicians - "A silent but all-reaching coup is taking place within the
United States. This coup is not being directed by bomb-laden Muslim terrorists, nor will it ever be covered by the mainstream media.
The seditious act is being carried out by our very own elected officials, with President Bush leading the insurrection."
"The FDA has conveniently used the excuse of looking out for consumer safety to increase their perverse regulatory power,
undermine free speech, disrupt commerce, and generally get in the way of helping people improve their health. The "half-truth" of
the safety issue is used as a ploy to reduce the rights of Americans, one freedom at a time. Once again, the FDA is seeking more
police power to intimidate supplement companies. This is one step in an overall FDA master plan to eliminate therapeutic nutritional
supplements from the free market. Those who lose are the American public." The FDA - A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
