The Hate On Talk Radio Is Coming From The Left
By Dave Gibson (08/19/05)
Liberals have been angry over conservative-dominated talk radio for years. The left always claims that conservative radio is full of hatred. However, a brief inspection of liberal radio reveals truly mean-spirited personal attacks and groundless propaganda.
A few days ago, I decided to check out what the other side had to say and tuned into the Ed Schultz Show. Schultz can definitely be considered a liberal and has a nationally syndicated show. A local station recently began carrying the broadcast. It was the first and last time I will lend my ear to his drivel.
I tuned in just in time to hear Schultz attack Rush Limbaugh. He called the founding father of conservative radio a "druggy." I thought at first that he must have a point to make and continued to listen. Schultz went on to suggest that he and Limbaugh should have a nationally televised debate over the Iraq War...Sounds good to me. What followed reminded me why I pay little or no attention to liberals.
Schultz went on a tirade of insults which included the following statements:
-"if Rush can get off drugs and debate me"
-"for as long as your drugs hold out"
-"maybe we could hold a debate for the benefit of a drug rehab"
Over the course of twenty minutes (all I could stomach), Schultz made no less than ten references to Limbaugh's addiction to prescription drugs. I never heard any explanation as to why Limbaugh's position on the war was wrong. Nor why we should bring our troops home immediately. I did however, hear a hate-filled (and possibly quite jealous) man engage in pointless personal attacks.
If there exists such a thing as "hate-speech," it can be found on the liberal Air America network. With comedians--turned commentators Al Franken and Jeanine Garafolo, one would be hard-pressed to hear anything other than hatred. They spew hatred for the war effort, anyone who respects the sanctity of innocent life, Christians, and of course President Bush. Never however, are any alternative solutions to our ills offered.
Earlier this year, the following ad directed toward President Bush and his plan to employ private Social Security accounts appeared on Air America:
-"A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he's going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer you ungrateful whelp!"
Audio: four gun shots
"Just try it you little bastard!"
That's right, the liberal network proudly quipped about shooting the president. The spot was eventually pulled and Al Franken later claimed that he did not know about it...Sure.
Those on the left believe that conservative radio had a great impact on the last two presidential elections. It also angers them because so many Americans have turned away from liberal-dominated news sources in favor of talk radio. They despise anyone on the right who can provide thoughtful reasons for their beliefs.
The next time you hear a liberal complaining about so-called "hate speech" emanating from talk radio--simply remind them to remove the log from their own eye!
