The Evil of Pacifism!
By Doug Hagin (08/26/05)
What is this thing called pacifism? Is it, as its proponents like to argue, a morally superior ideology? Is it an ideal that, if embraced by us all, would soon lead to peace and harmony? If we simply listen to the pacifist message and never take up arms, even when confronted with evil, will our enemies cease in seeking our destruction?
Do not bet on any of that ever happening. The facts are, no matter how pure the ideal of pacifism sounds, it is in fact nothing but moral and intellectual cowardice. Pacifism is, instead of being morally superior, morally indefensible. Rather than being an ideal, which will end, evil through kindness, it is an ideal, which will secure victory for evil and death, slavery, and destruction for everyone else.
Consider our current struggle with terrorists across the globe. More specifically, focus on the major theatre of that struggle, Iraq. A sizeable, but small number of Americans are busily protesting our troops and our mission in Iraq. Moreover, please spare me the hogwash about supporting the troops but not their mission.
It is impossible to “support” the troops and at the same time call, their mission one based on lies and an unjustified war of imperialist aggression. Therefore, no matter how many time Leftists claim they are supporting the troops they are in fact supporting the terrorists instead.
Yes, a war protester may think that America should never have gone into Iraq. They might make reasoned arguments to that effect, but when they begin to call our troops killers, or they refer to the terrorists as freedom fighters, then they are supporting the enemy NOT our troops!
Many of these protesters are in fact pacifists. They do not believe I this war, or any war, or any use of violence ever, for any reason. They are the folks who like to pretend they hold some intellectual superiority to the rest of us. They think chanting useless slogans such as, “violence always begets violence” or “war never solved anything” will make this country a safer place.
I ask, could there be a more intellectually bankrupt ideology than one that denies the most basic of rights. That of self-defense? Pacifists live in a delusional world where violence is violence. There are no differences in their thinking between a rapist who attacks a woman and that woman if she shoots her attacker.
Ask a devoted pacifist what they would do if someone attacked their children and they would say they would not resort to violence. They believe it morally superior to allow your children, family, to be brutalized, than to use violence to stop the attack.
How can any sane person rationalize such an ideal? Not only will their inaction not help the innocent victims, but also it will only lead to more victims that are innocent later. What their clouded minds cannot grasp is that sometimes violence IS not only a solution often times it is the best answer.
Just as the pacifist cannot recognize the goodness of violence when used to defend ourselves from criminals, they also fail to grasp the goodness of our war in Iraq.
Again, to them a terrorist killing innocent Iraqis is no worse than a Marine killing that terrorist. Again recall the credo of pacifism, “war never solved anything“. For the pacifist the proper answer to the attacks of 9-11 would have been to reach out and understand our attackers. This would, of course, only led to more attacks, more dead Americans, and would have provided a tremendous victory for our enemies.
In short, pacifism, instead of being the path to peace is the path to destruction of everything good in our nation. The basis of pacifism is to never fight for any reason. Following such a pathetic and cowardly ideology would not allow us to defend our liberty, or our security.
Whether or not the pacifist wish to recognize evil it exists and pacifism can never defeat it. The terrorists in Iraq are evil. Just as the Nazis were evil. Just as we had to use violence to defeat the Nazis, we must also use violence to defeat terrorists.
Just as not fighting back against a rapist or invader in your home will never stop them and their evil intentions, neither will not fighting terrorism. Terrorists will not look at our pacifism as our message of peace. Rather they will see it as a weakness to be exploited and used against us. They do not seek peace or harmony. They seek to rule everyone under their perverse brand of religious fanaticism.
They will not stop should we leave Iraq. They will not live peacefully, or seek to be our friends. They will slit the throats of those Iraqis who dared stand against them. They will bring terror and murder to the Iraqis on an unspeakable level.
The pacifists, if they desire, only need look back to the atrocities that occurred in Vietnam after the United States withdrew to see the folly of their ideology. Tyrants and evil men do not stop because of appeasement or surrender. There is only one thing that stops them, and that is total defeat.
In the end, pacifism is not peaceful at all; it is not moral or righteous. It is evil because it refuses to battle against evil.
