New Orleans Is At the Mercy of Lawless Thugs

While all of the images coming out of the Gulf Coast are deeply disturbing, those of the looting are perhaps the most troubling. Those who would steal from their neighbors in the aftermath of a natural disaster, are the lowest amongst us.
Before the storm had even passed, gangs of thieves were breaking-into local stores. As the winds were still howling, the shelves of a New Orleans' Winn Dixie were stripped clean.
A French Quarter Walgreen's drug store was one of the first hit after the storm. In the full view of news cameramen, looters filled shopping carts with anything and everything. New Orleans police showed up and a young ghetto dweller yelled out "86!" (the radio code for the police)--the thugs then scattered like roaches.
The hip-deep water on Canal Street was not enough to deter the looters, who were busy breaking plate glass windows and doors to enter the numerous shops along the famous street. Were they stealing essentials such as food and water?...No, these entitlement babies were much more concerned with lifting designer jeans and jewelry. A reporter approached a young black man whose arms were filled with pairs of new jeans, and asked if he was retrieving merchandise from his own store..."No," the man grunted "that's EVERYBODY'S store!"
A New Orleans' Wal-Mart was completely emptied on Tuesday. Televisions, stereo equipment, video games, etc. were all stolen. Considering the fact that there is no electrical power in that city, nor will there be for months--it is tough for even the most lily-livered liberal to justify the actions of these criminals. All of the guns were stolen from that Wal-Mart as well.
The most frightening incident so far occurred Tuesday night. The Louisiana Governor's office reported that armed looters attempted to break into the Children's Hospital in New Orleans. They were no doubt searching for a stash of narcotics. The hospital held 100 children who were too sick to be evacuated before the storm. Police could not respond to the call due to high water. The hospital staff and children were left to defend themselves against the drug-crazed mob.
These are not only thieves, but violent savages. A New Orleans police officer was shot in the head while attempting to stop a looter. The city's homeland security chief Terry Ebbert told the local Times-Picayune: "There are gangs of armed men moving around the city."
A brief look at New Orleans reveals that this lawless behavior really should not be a big shock. The homicide rate in the 'Crescent City' is actually ten times that of the national average. There have already been 200 murders in that city this year alone.
In 2004, New Orleans police and local university researchers conducted a rather disturbing and telling experiment. Police officers shot 700 blank rounds in one of the city's black crime-ridden neighborhoods. All 700 rounds were fired in one afternoon. Not one phone call was placed to 911 operators to report the gunshots!
New Orleans is 67% black. Now, I am not suggesting that all blacks are criminals. However, there is a large segment of the black population who not only accept lawless behavior, but glorify it. Many blacks believe that they are somehow entitled to steal. A young black New Orleans' man named Mike Franklin justified the looting to an AP reporter by saying: "To be honest with you, people are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society." Unfortunately, that belief is all too common amongst America's black population.
My brother lived in Charleston, S.C. during Hurricane Hugo. That area was hit hard by the ferocious storm. The governor at the time, issued a shoot-on-site policy for all looters. Consequently, there was no looting in the historic city.
These vultures descending upon New Orleans' businesses are nothing more than useless vermin and should be dealt with as such. A shoot-to-kill order should be issued. Once a few of these thugs were blown apart--the looting would come to an abrupt end.
We should all pray for the law-abiding poor victims of Hurricane Katrina. Those who could not afford to leave the city and have lost all of their meager means and even their loved-ones, are now apparently at the mercy of animalistic criminals.
Two tragedies have befallen the city of New Orleans...The devastation wreaked by a storm of biblical proportion and now the devastation wreaked by human beings-turned predators.
