The “Truth” About 9/11… That Nobody Wants To Tell You!
By JB Williams (04/12/04)
The alleged “non-partisan” commission investigating the events leading up to September 11th, 2001 may eventually come up with some answers we really need, but only if they first get off of the “political” witch hunt track that has so far dominated the proceedings. Before we can get the right answers, they first have to ask the right questions!
So far, the commission is locked on assessing blame for 9/11, some looking to bump Monica over and lay it in Bill Clinton’s lap, others hoping to help John Kerry’s election campaign by finding fault with the Bush administrations actions. In either case, it’s much like holding gun manufacturers responsible for the acts of a criminal who could have just as easily beat the store clerk to death with a Louisville Slugger. The blame belongs to Bin Laden, and a whole cast of unsavory characters whose weapon of choice happens to be terrorism.
The “truth” about 9/11 is already available for anyone interested in knowing the “truth” about that day, though many will opt to look the other way because as is usually the case these days, the “truth” makes us very uncomfortable. We don’t need a multi million dollar investigation to know how 9/11 was able to happen, nor to know that more attacks are likely in the future, or that little can be done to stop it, at least here at home.
If we keep asking the wrong questions, we will keep getting the wrong answers. The “truth” about that day, and the events leading up to it are already public knowledge, though many with a “political” agenda are searching for a different set of facts that will help them avoid an event that they see as worse than 9/11, the re-election of George Bush.
How that day was able to happen, is only important as it relates to what we can do differently in the future, that will allow us to avoid the next 9/11. But the “truth” is, the security conditions in America, then and now, make it impossible to stop such events, at least all of them, and nobody wants to tell you that. No “leader” wants to tell you that we can not stop every attack; after all, what are “leaders” for? We demand that our “leaders” lie to us on this topic, or else we will find another “leader” who will.
If you are familiar with the “separation of powers” in America, then you must realize that the separation exists at the top of our system of government, as well as at the bottom, and everywhere in between. Prior to 9/11, the FBI, CIA, NSA and INS were not “sharing” data, because they “couldn’t” legally share data. Even now, we don’t really want the CIA and NSA, agencies previously concerned only with international intelligence matters, gaining access to private information that the FBI might have on American citizens. We certainly don’t want the INS, concerned with immigration matters, having access to data from the CIA or NSA when considering applicants from our relatives who are hoping to start a new life in the land of milk and honey.
The “Patriot Act” had to be passed in order to lift that legal roadblock to the sharing of information, and only 9/11 itself has drawn more criticism than the passage and implementation of the “Patriot Act”. We American’s value our freedoms, particularly, our Right to privacy.
Israel, the world experts on the topic of defending against terrorist acts, has a list of more than a hundred measures that they take every day in an effort to thwart such attacks, 95% of which are completely unacceptable to Americans because of the intrusive nature of such measures upon the citizens. Despite all of their efforts, all of these intrusive measures, Israel remains a vulnerable target.
Israel is a country with 20,770 Square Kilometers to protect, while America has 9,629,091 Square Kilometers to protect. Israel has a total of 1017 km of boarder to protect, and most of their trouble emanates from a 357 km area known as the West Bank and Gaza Strip. America has 8893 km on the Canadian boarder, another 3141 km on the Mexican boarder, and 19,924 km of coastline, all of which is more porous than the 357 km area that Israel can’t protect 100%, despite all of there measures and expertise.
Still having trouble understanding the impossible task of defending America? All of Europe is decades ahead of us in experience with defending against terrorists threats, yet they too remain vulnerable targets. We in America still refer to “criminal profiling” as “racial profiling”, completely ignorant of the fact that most attacks in the world that are thwarted, are thwarted by “profiling” people in high risk categories. We prefer the more “politically correct” version of checking little old ladies in wheelchairs, in an effort to avoid any suggestion of “discrimination”. Other than “nationality”, what exactly does a “terrorist” look like?
Then you can add to these factors, a nation publicly divided on the issue. Half of us convinced that there is some way to negotiate peace with the terrorists, half of us more upset by the 600 dead in Iraq than the 3000 dead in New York. Half of us more concerned with our relationship with the UN, or France, than with our nations security. Half of us unable to understand the true nature and cause of terrorism, or see the connection between terrorist networks that want to kill us, and terrorist regimes that want to kill us, and the threat of them ever working together.
In the end, there is little hope that we can avoid another 9/11, and the likelihood is that the next event will eclipse 9/11. No self respecting politician can afford to say this, no matter how true it is. There is but one way to even hope for such security in the homeland, and that way is to take the fight to the enemy, and I should say “enemies”, because there is more than one, many more.
We are not even remotely serious about fighting terrorism in this country yet, and neither are the people on the alleged “non-partisan” commission. The much talked about testimony of Dr. Rice was a perfect example of American politics as usual, and consequently, nothing of any value was learned during the process.
The right question is how do we stop an event worse than 9/11, without stripping away all of our Rights in the process?
The answer is, we ignore any Rights of the terrorist, and systematically eliminate them in their own lands, so that we will never have to face them again in our own. In order to do this, we can not afford to care what the UN thinks, or France, or anyone else. In order to accomplish this daunting task, we must take “pre-emptive” action abroad against “potential” threats, rather than waiting for them to bring further harm on American soil.
Last, we must remain resolute in our determination to defeat this threat, at any cost, or pay the higher cost of not defeating the threat. There is almost no chance that we can avoid another 9/11 type event, and all of the security measures possible, would only slightly increase our odds, as is demonstrated everyday in Israel and Europe.
Some in our country are willing to live with the threat, like Europe, but some of us are not.
