Help Stop the Re-Hijacking of Flight 93
By Richard Davis (09/12/05)
At first you think it must be a joke, a cruel, sick joke by someone with incredibly bad taste. But it isn’t. It’s the winning design for the Flight 93 memorial. And it’s a crescent, the symbol of Islam. The brave men and women on Flight 93 fought Muslim hijackers to the death, and now the National Park Service finds it appropriate to honor them by using the very symbol under which their killers acted. What have we become in this country?
Like the so-called Freedom Center at Ground Zero in New York -- a sickening display of liberal hate and anti-Americanism -- the Flight 93 memorial is not designed to honor the victims. It’s designed to honor the bankrupt ideology of the designers and their “progressive” brethren. They’re simply using the dead to honor themselves. You can’t get more disgusting than that.
But that’s late-stage liberalism. It has no decency. And it has no respect for the dead or any of the living who won’t submit to its self-declared dominion.
Of course, liberals have no desire or intention whatsoever of honoring the victims of 9/11. Like Colorado’s fake-Indian professor Ward Churchill they think the Muslims were the real victims on that day, not Americans, and that is what architect Paul Murdoch is saying with his Flight 93 design, “Crescent of Embrace.”
I wonder if the Crescent of Embrace refers to the embrace the Muslim passengers gave the flight attendants when they grabbed them from behind and slit their throats. Or are we not to talk about that anymore?
The symbol is intentional. Murdoch knew exactly what he was doing. One design jury even recommended changing the name to avoid the religious connotation. But it was the connotation Murdoch was after. What better way to reveal himself as the wise liberal, the inclusive, tolerant liberal.
Already, opponents of the design are being smeared as racists and bigots. And that’s the point to these liberal affronts. Provoke others into refuting your contrived and phony tolerance and then proclaim yourself morally superior. You can test their hypocrisy easy enough: Propose a Christian theme for the memorial. So much for tolerance.
These memorials are political opportunities to liberals, nothing more, attacks against enemies they can no longer engage openly. They’re slaps in the face to an America they can’t stand and which no longer can stand them. Unable to defend their ideas in argument, they assault America’s symbols in a desperate and increasingly ugly rear-guard action.
The mainstream media ignored the issue altogether in their news reports. No real surprise there. Yet what kind of journalist fails to at least question the choice and appropriateness of an Islamic symbol in this situation? Does their liberalism explain their incompetence, or is it the other way around?
Once again the blogoshere has risen to the rescue. Given the MSM’s obvious partisanship and growing ineptness, bloggers have become America’s journalistic conscience. They’re all we have left.
One of the best is Michelle Malkin. She has a picture of the Crescent of Embrace at MichelleMalkin.com -- take a look -- and also lists contacts to call for those wishing to voice disapproval over this design. Contact the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial at (814) 443-4557. Or fax (814) 443-2180.
The heroes of Flight 93 fought and died preventing Muslim terrorists from using their airplane to destroy the Capitol building and hundreds of other innocent lives. To permit Murdoch and his ilk to now hijack their memorial and permanently enshrine the very symbol of their murderers on that hallowed ground is a disgrace to those passengers and the rest of America. Take a few minutes and make a call. We owe that to the men and women of Flight 93.
