Takeover of America's Judicial System
By Felicia (Fee) Benamon (09/26/05)
I see the Pledge of Allegiance, our wonderful ode to our country and to God, is under fire...again! Michael Newdow, an atheist living in California has sought time and again to remove "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. Since 1954, Americans have recited the Pledge with the words "Under God". Newdow has brought this issue to the U.S. Supreme Court and lost his battle, but continues to force his views. He feels that it "forces God on atheists" ( Newdow: Pledge Forces God On Atheists ). Atheists are forced to say the pledge? Let me remind Mr. Newdow that he has the freedom to opt out of any observance mentioning the Almighty. No one is forcing him (or any atheist) to participate. But we have the freedom and right in our country to acknowledge God's presence and influence in our lives. And most Americans do not have a problem doing so.
It seems that Newdow has found a judge who agrees with him. U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton has ruled that the words "Under God" in the Pledge are unconstitutional! Soon, three school districts in California will be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance without "Under God"! Michael Newdow, and those like him, have their own agenda. It is a shame that he has involved the school system in all of this. I wonder, since Michael Newdow doesn't believe in a God, how could the phrase "Under God" bother him so much? Something must be bothering him to keep him so persistent in trying to remove "Under God" from the pledge. Perhaps it's his conscience telling him that he is mistaken, that there could really be an awesome Creator who flung the heavens together, and he's fighting it? He says that he is being "forced" to acknowledge God. No sir! You are forcing your beliefs on a majority of Americans! And we will not take it lying down!
I am thankful for those in our government who have taken a stand FOR the Pledge of Allegiance. Americans freely voted for President Bush for a second term...a man who openly expresses his views about God. A man who has consistently stood up for the values many of us hold dear. Americans voted for him for that very reason, conservative values. President Bush's administration will take a stand for our right to acknowledge God. Alberto Gonzales recently made the statement that he will make sure that God stays in the Pledge ( Gonzales: We'll Fight to Keep God in Pledge ). Bush's Supreme Court nominee, Judge John Roberts has declared the courts have been inconsistent regarding religious cases
( Roberts Says High Court Rulings On Religious Issues Inconsistent ). Our courts need strong, solid men and women who will not try to input their left leaning ideology or leftist doctrines into our way of life.
Attack on Judge Roberts
As usual, the lambasting of a conservative nominee to the courts, by certain Democrats and liberals, continues. This time, it's Judge John Roberts, a highly qualified, highly intelligent man who has found favor with people in both political parties ( JudgeRoberts.com ). He is under attack as he faces tough questions in confirmation hearings to become the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. On top of that, liberal interest groups are behind the scenes, working against him. Ralph Neas of People for the American Way sends plea to supporters:
"We need funds immediately to deploy our daily rapid response team, activate our teams of lawyers and researchers to examine Roberts’ testimony and investigate potential O’Connor replacement nominees, and mobilize our grassroots activists around the country.”

Excuse me? A team of lawyers? Why is there a need for lawyers to decipher Robert's testimony before the members of the Judiciary?
As you can see, the left will try anything to go after people of character, people who do not share the same views as they do. In this case, the Senate Judiciary should allow the fair process of hearings, then allowing a fair up or down vote. Not adding lawyers to the mix! That figures! If you have enough money and have the right amount of lawyers, forget about fair process for nominees!
Democrats have tried to tear into Judge John Roberts with unfair questions, but he successfully answers, leaving the Democrats dumbfounded. Roberts was not phased one bit by Democrats' interrogations. He even gave Sen. Democrat Chuck Schumer D-NY a bit of a laugh in response to his retort to Sen. Roberts about the lengthy way in which Roberts would answer his question regarding his favorite movies. Judge Roberts answered bluntly "North by Northwest" and "Dr. Zhivago". This shows Roberts strength, character, and wit. That he can hold his own when under pressure. The only problem Democrats had about Roberts (or any other judicial candidate Bush has nominated), is that he is conservative. And that he will rule that way. Well, President Bush won the election, he has the right to nominate whom he chooses. John Roberts understands our conservative traditions, and he will be fair in all cases, and seek a balance.
In the latest development, Senator Patrick Leahy D-VT, makes a surprise move to vote "yea" on Judge Roberts. Leahy, a liberal Democrat, described Roberts as " a man of character", regardless of the fact that he had reservations about Robert's stand on the issues. I commend the Senator for seeing the fine qualities in Judge Roberts and voting not on party lines, but with his conscience. So why can't more Democrats follow Sen. Leahy's lead? Our country will be all the more better for it. Thank you Sen. Leahy.
Conservatives must continue to fight
Our moral compass, our faith is the glue that holds our society together. Without that, we are just meandering through life. With no convictions, chaos and confusion is free to enter into our lives. We cannot and must not deny our religious heritage. America needs to back those strong individuals who will stand up for our conservative traditions... and who will make sure that the underlying elements in our society who wish to rid every mention of God in our society, fails.
Again, I thank Senator Leahy for not participating in partisan politics. I plan to let him know myself how much his decision to vote for John Roberts as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court means. He is an example of the bipartisan fellowship that is sorely needed in Washington.
