'Nuclear Weapons: For Bragging Rights or M.A.D. Rites?'
OffSite (08/08/08)
Will Nuclear Proliferation Become Armageddon? Iran and that country’s headlong attempts at uranium enrichment for nuclear weapons manufacture has again focused world attention to use of these terrible weapons of mass destruction. Now we read that Syria and N. Korea are also involved in nuclear proliferation in a Middle East regional boiling pot of hatred and religious conflict. Is this the true Biblical philosophy of a world-ending bloody battle in modern times?

Britney Hussein Obama Spears
Guest Author: Karen Hathaway Pittman (08/08/08)
Oops, he did it again: fresh out of a tone-deaf rehab-session with the Democrat Congressional caucus, Britney Hussein Obama Spears is right now noisily sucking back all the available airtime on my TV, Pac-man-style, filling it up with his obscenely flapping face … and his fluffy meringue fillips.
Islamists Rule American Publishing Industry
Warner Todd Huston (08/08/08)
America is the land of liberty. It is the place where political expression is protected by law and custom. It is the freest nation on Earth... unless, of course, you wish to talk about Islam. Then, unless you bow and scrape, unless you assert its supposed peacefulness, unless you bend over backwards to make sure that you don't "offend" Islamists, you will be shut down. At least this is true if you wish to publish a book about Islam, it appears.

Nat'l Post: 'You'll Miss' The Old Media When Its Gone
Warner Todd Huston (08/08/08)
Jonathan Kay of the National Post (Canada) is sure that we'll miss the old media when its gone. So sure he wrote a paean(1) to how great the media is... and he missed the target by a wide margin on every point he made. Unfortunately, he took a good point and made a mockery of the truth of the matter with his wrongheaded reasoning.
It's Easy to Call Someone a Coward at a Safe Distance
Aaron Goldstein (08/08/08)
Like you, I was horrified by the tragedy that took place on the Greyhound Bus bound from Edmonton to Winnipeg on July 30th. Tim McLean, all of 22 years old, was repeatedly stabbed and beheaded while the bus was traveling west of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Vince Weiguang Li has been charged with second degree murder and could face the rest of his life in prison if convicted (Canada has no death penalty.)
Moqtada al Sadr's Penchant for 'Community Organizing'
Frank Salvato (08/08/08)
Radical Iraqi Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al Sadr is planning to disarm his Mahdi Army and oversee its transformation from Islamist fighting force into a civic and social service organization. Al Sadr wants us to believe that this cadre of anti-American jihadists is going to voluntarily lay down their weapons and all become “community organizers.” The truth is that al Sadr has been an attentive student, having studied the transformations of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza from violent jihadi organizations into armed factions validated by the electoral and political processes.

US Prepares for Nuclear Terrorism
Jim Kouri CPP (08/07/08)
The United States Department of Energy maintains emergency response capabilities and assets to quickly respond to potential nuclear and radiological threats within the United States. These capabilities are primarily found at DOE's two key emergency response facilities -- the Remote Sensing Laboratories at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
The Case for Cantor

Eric Cantor is being vetted by John McCain for the vice presidential slot. Congressman Cantor may very well be the best possible Republican to run with McCain – for several different reasons.
Birds of a Feather
Lisa Fabrizio (08/07/08)
As is by now apparent, Barack Obama and his crack team of foreign policy experts have proven themselves totally tone-deaf when it comes to understanding the American people and their views toward the rest of the world. His campaign’s strategy to convince voters that the way to win their hearts is to cozy up to those who hold them in disdain has resulted in a dip in his poll numbers.

Doctor Who Tackles Transgenic Menace
Frederick Meekins (08/07/08)
As culture passes through various stages of technological development, the science fiction of a particular point in history often reflects the concerns regarding the horrors discerning intellects at the time feared could possibly be inflicted upon the earth should what is then considered new knowledge get out of hand. For example, throughout the 50's and 60's, speculative literature often focused on the impact of radiation as embodied by the origins of Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and the Fantastic Four.
Obama Is Europe's "Vision" For America
Christopher Adamo (08/07/08)
Fawning over Barack Obama as they did during his recent overseas campaign swing, those cheering multitudes of Europeans said much more about themselves than they did about either Illinois Senator and Democrat presidential candidate or the best course to chart for the future of the United States. Somewhat surprisingly, and despite all of the dutiful and harmonious consensus of Obama’s lackeys in the American media, his campaign gained little credibility from the venture.

America's Political Gag Reflex
Lee Culpepper (08/06/08)
With Obama’s lead in the polls disappearing, a steady stream of doubt is now being poured over Obama’s nervous and inverted campaign. The great orator appears ready to crack. Soon, Obama could be flip-flopping so swiftly that the infamous 90 seconds required to break someone through waterboarding will seem like eternity. If swearing to be a born-again conservative would make him president, Obama would find a way to deliver the announcement and still pacify his government-dependent audience.
Lefty WaPo Columnist Quits Olbermann's 'Countdown' Over Dispute With Host
Warner Todd Huston (08/06/08)
It appears that Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank has dumped his appearances on MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann." Host Olbermann issued a DailyKos diary explaining the dust up(1) on Monday, August 4. According to Olbermann, the problem came in when Milbank violated Keith Olbermann's well-known journalistic standards. Of course, I jest about that... not that there was a disagreement but that there are any journalistic standards in the Olbermann camp.
Voter Responses to Fuel Costs
Paul M. Weyrich (08/06/08)
When Congress returns after Labor Day the Republican Whip, Representative Roy Blunt (R-MO), will introduce the American Energy Act. He means it to be the definitive program his party should pursue as it faces the general election in a couple of months. The measure has three distinctive parts. First, there is American-made energy. The bill would open deep-water resources. He projects that this will add three million barrels of oil per day as well as 76 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The bill would open the Arctic coastal plain, which would add one million barrels of oil per day. And it would allow development of the nation’s oil shale resources, which could provide an additional 2.5 million barrels of oil per day. And it would cut the red tape so that more refineries could be built. We have not built a new refinery in 30 years.
Democrats kill ban on terrorists in schools

Majority Democrats in the California Assembly have rejected two amendments that would have allowed schools to fire any employee discovered to be part of an extremist terror network and require users of school facilities to affirm they are not terrorists.

'Homelessness Falls Under Bush... Where is the Media?'
Warner Todd Huston (08/05/08)
Have you noticed that the old media standby story of the homeless has not been pursued much in the last four or five years? Some may remember how the media constantly bemoaned the state of the homeless during the Reagan and H.W. Bush years in office, and how the media constantly used this tale as a club with which to beat those two Republican presidents over the head. Folks like Rush Limbaugh, I recall, noticed how this standard media go-to story disappeared once Clinton became president and postulated that it would fast return once G.W.Bush took the Oval Office. But, the homeless has not made much of a media come back. In fact, that meme has virtually evaporated as a major media focal point. And there is a reason for that. Under the Bush administration, homelessness has actually 'decreased by 12% per year between 2005 and 2007'(1).

Barack Obama and Defining Anti-Americanism Downwards
Selwyn Duke (08/05/08)
If Barack Obama sought to win the votes of Germans, he need seek no more. Of course, his new image was all the rage in the Old World long before he gave his July 24 speech in Berlin. Along with the mainstream media and murderer Dale Leo Bishop, Senator Sweetness and Light is the man the Europeans want as our leader.
Breaking the Mold: Why there is only one Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Guest Author: Paul A. Ibbetson (08/05/08)
Recently, I had the unique opportunity to interview the man the media calls the "Toughest Sheriff in America," Sheriff Joe Arpaio, on my radio show the Conscience of Kansas. It was an extremely dynamic interview, and I invite people to listen to both part one(1) and part two(2) of the show in its entirety. My goal going into the interview was to acquire some insights into one of the nation's most interesting law enforcement officers to pin on the badge. I also had a secondary question of my own to satisfy, and that was, can the Arpaio system of law enforcement be duplicated across this country?

'Michelle Obama's Black Separatist Background: What Does It Mean for All Americans?'
Rachel Neuwirth (08/04/08)
The senior thesis that Michelle Obama (or as she then was, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson) submitted to Princeton University in 1985 for completion of her bachelor’s degree in Sociology, has been made available to the public on Politico.com (part one, part two, part three and part four) and other websites. There are two things that are of public interest about this thesis: a) the fact that public access to it was restricted for some six-eight weeks during the Presidential campaign; and b) its contents.

US Arctic Oil May be LOST to the UN
Alan Caruba (08/03/08)
“The Arctic may hold 90 billion barrels of oil, more than all the known reserves of Nigeria, Kazakhstan, and Mexico combined, and enough to supply U.S. demand for 12 years.” One would have thought Joe Carroll’s Bloomberg News report would have evoked some interest by the public and other media outlets. Instead, news of the U.S. Geological Survey was greeted mostly by a giant collective yawn.

Hurricanes and Politicians
Thomas D. Segel (08/03/08)
Harlingen, Texas, August 2, 2008: When a hurricane is battering down your fence, ripping shingles off your roof, ending all electric service and providing more rainfall than you normally see in a year…politics are not even part of your thinking process. A Great Lakes Eco 'Catastrophe' That ISN'T
Warner Todd Huston (08/02/08)
The Chicago Tribune posted a story(1) in the July 30 edition that highlights the often absurd hyperbole all too common in the language of environmentalists and eco-watchers. The story detailed the findings of scientists studying Lake Michigan and the ecology of the Great Lakes, one of them saying it is in "catastrophic" shape. Native fish and vegetation are being crowded out by new species and the "Great Lakes are at a tipping point" the Trib warns. It's all presented as some major disaster that should alarm us all, as if Mother Nature is being ruined, presumably by man.

Specter Of Liberalism Haunts Pittsburgh
Guest Author: (08/02/08)
Pittsburgh is being haunted by liberalism and the city is still spending money it does not have. A little couple weeks ago Mayor Luke Ravenstahl (D), the boy wonder, was concerned and fretting because many of his hopes and dreams were pinned to revenues projected from a new casino (being built by Don Barden) on the North Shore. This project had not only fallen behind schedule, but is now in the process of being transferred to new owners and delayed. Seems Mr. Barden did not have all his ducks in a row and did not have enough funding for his grand plans despite a government oversight and selection process that was supposed to pick the best candidate to build this new source of tax revenues for our liberal government. Corruption? Quid pro quo? Your guess at how this man got the sole gaming license for Pittsburgh is as good as any.
