Alex Epstein (4/30/09)
Washington, D.C., April 30, 2009—The Environmental Protection Agency’s “finding” that carbon dioxide emissions endanger “the health and welfare of current and future generations” is absurd, said Alex Epstein, analyst at the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights. According to Mr. Epstein, the real danger to Americans’ “health and welfare” is policies designed to fight global warming by throttling energy sources that emit CO2.

Cutting out the education middleman
EdukShun piece by GoldwaterInstitute:
Clint Bolick (4/30/09)
Last fall, voters rejected several efforts to consolidate school districts. While the supporters had a kernel of insight—it’s wise to capture economies of scale—they pursued the wrong approach. Instead of making school districts bigger, we should abolish them.

‘The 2010 Decennial Census In Danger Again - A Church Boycott?‘

Confusion, uncertainty and suspicion appear to have been competing with one another to confound or compromise the clear Constitutional requiement: Article I. A Culture Of Surveillance
Big Brother piece by Guest:
Chuck Baldwin (4/28/09)
It is truly amazing how much news the American news media chooses to ignore. If one wants to discover what is actually going on in the world, he or she often has to go to the foreign press. This has again been the case with a story that every American should be extremely interested in, but which has been totally ignored by the American news media. I found this story in Russia Today.

Christians Must Be The Driving Force In Saving America
Religion piece by J. D. Longstreet
(4/27/09)
If one chooses not to subscribe to a religion (in this America) that is perfectly OK. Nowhere is it written that you must belong to one faith, or the other, to be a good citizen, or even just to be a citizen. Nowhere.
Why the Law is Foreign to Ginsberg
Judicial Activism piece by Selwyn Duke
(4/27/09)
There is an old saying, “A man who is capable of deceiving only others is not nearly as dangerous as a man who is capable of deceiving himself.“ Truer words were never spoken. When a person lies, he is deceiving others about reality, but at least knows he is engaging in deception. But when someone rationalizes - which is when you lie to yourself - he is truly lost. He then not only bends reality for others as a by-product of bending it for himself, but he can render untruths without having to lie. This is because a lie is when you tell an untruth knowing it’s untrue. It’s much like when the ever-prevaricating George Costanza character on Seinfeld gave his advice for beating a polygraph machine, “just remember . . . it’s not a lie if you believe it.“
We Need New Definitions of Rich and Poor
Society piece by Doug Patton
(4/27/09)
“Contentment makes poor men rich; discontentment makes rich men poor.“ - Benjamin Franklin—Much has been written about the Greatest Generation, and with good reason. They grew up during the harsh years of the Great Depression; then, just as they were reaching adulthood, they were asked to save the world from tyranny - which they did, even though many of them were still teenagers.

A recent scientific paper quoted in the N.Y. Times claimed Mexican corals that died 120,000 years ago showed sea levels might have surged 10 feet in just 50 years! If so, such a sea-level rise must have involved a big ice-melt in Antarctica.

Solar Scenarios
Climate Change piece by Alan Caruba
(4/26/09)
The end of the world has always been a popular theme for various religions and for doomsayers in general. The Mayan calendar identifies December 12, 2012 as the end of the world. In the second century B.C., the Jewish cult, the Essenes, framed it as a battle between good and evil, and the Book of Revelations offers its own scenario.

Here she comes, Miss Integrity
Society piece by Offsite
(4/25/09)
I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Miss USA pageant in which Miss California, Carrie Prejean, got nailed on a question about gay marriage posed by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. It’s very likely that, had she not let her true hateful nature slip, Miss Prejean would now be reigning as Miss USA and thus in a position to spread her detestable, revolting belief in the sanctity of marriage around the country. Thank goodness Perez Hilton prevented this with his great big “ZERO” score. What a narrow escape.
How one ordinary woman solved a murder
Crime piece by Offsite
(4/25/09)
How an ordinary woman’s persistence led to justice for the victim of a brutal murder - At the age of 40 Susan Galbreath’s life had spiralled into a dull purposelessness, with no fixed ambitions, targets or goals. By the year 2000, she had two failed marriages behind her, one son, and had moved south from Chicago to Mayfield, Kentucky. Her third husband was an alcoholic and the marriage was in atrophy. She had not worked since an illness in 1998 and anyway had a background without any fixed skills or training. It was a dead end-life in a near dead-end town.
