How Jesus Might Look Back at the Cross
Society piece by Rev. Miles
(3/31/10)
The world today is in chaos. There are no restraints in human conduct. Absolute values have long been abolished. Good is considered evil, and evil is considered good. And never has The Cross been more offensive to society than it is today. Sin abounds. Any mention of the name Jesus Christ brings contempt and ridicule. His name is blasphemed and many public displays of Christianity have been declared illegal, while at the same time, pagan religions are readily endorsed and encouraged. Seeing all of this, would Jesus have second thoughts about Calvary? How would He look back on his sacrifice today? Think about it.

Arizona’s fourth grade scores remained unchanged at a low level; Florida’s scores surged ahead.
White Elephant in Baghdad
Middle East piece by Daniel Pipes
(3/30/10)
Iraq’s recently-concluded inconclusive elections will be followed in August by the pullout of American troops, making this a good time to ask what American taxpayers have achieved with the US$45 billion spent on reconstructing Iraq since 2003 and what steps to take next.
My 2010 MLB Predictions
Sports piece by Aaron Goldstein
(3/30/10)
I will now regale (or repulse) you with my predictions for the 2010 season in Major League Baseball which opens this coming Sunday night when the Boston Red Sox play host to the New York Yankees. Last year, I must confess I predicted the Yankees to have the worst record in all of MLB. I thought the team was aging, their minor league system decrepit and that Joe Girardi would be replaced by Luis Sojo by June.(1) So you are more than welcome to take these predictions with several grains of salt. We’ll see how well I do come October.

Obama in Rude Denial
ObamaNation piece by Offsite
(3/29/10)
The White House political and legislative operations were said to be livid with the announcement by several large U.S. companies that they were taking multi-million or as much as a billion dollar charges because of the new health-care law, the issue was front-and-center with key lawmakers. By last Friday, AT&T, Caterpillar, Deere & Co., and AK Steel Holding Corp. had all announced that they were taking the one-time charges on their first-quarter balance sheets. More companies were expected to make similar announcements this week.
Military Service to Cost an Arm and a Leg Under ObamaCare
ObamaCare piece by Jayme Evans
(3/29/10)
As the dust settles over one of the most contentious debates in US history, many of the nation’s veterans are wondering what ObamaCare means specifically for them, given their unique situation and the social compact they made with their government to care for them in return for their service and quite possibly their lives.

A Petition for redress by the citizens of the United States
Government piece by J.J. Jackson
(3/27/10)
We the posterity of our forefathers come before the government of these United States and all mankind in order that it should be made clear our grievances stemming forth from a long train of abuses of our inalienable rights and blatant violations of the federal Constitution of these United States which was signed, ratified and where was bound up the whole of what was to be our limited federal government and its structure. No man rightfully wishes to contemplate the darkest of scenarios in which a government formed by the just consent of the people and constrained by chains of written words declared so boldly for all to witness no longer chooses to abide by said consent or words for reasons unjust and unholy while goaded on by the ravings of a portion of the populace coerced to abandon such confines. Beware the time at which such an instance becomes true, any sane man would warn! But what becomes when such a time is indeed upon us? Would the sane man who warned us to beware of it say no more? Indeed the answer cannot be reasoned to be anything other than a hearty and powerful, “No!“ which must be shouted upon the land from the tallest peak so that it may echo in the valleys and be heard by all. Sane men desirous of their liberty would never stop a step short of their goal and would never concede to such an outcome and would surely never be silenced when their freedoms are taken and the foundations of limited government violated.
Quantifying the shift to government dependence
Government piece by Kevin Price
(3/27/10)
I love lists, indices, and other interesting compilations of information. However, a recent report by the Heritage Foundation called the Index of Dependence on Government(1) was very disturbing indeed. The numbers numbers this report certainly makes one look and they should be most alarming to even the most casual observer.

Federal health care reform means paying more for less
ObamaCare piece by GoldwaterInstitute:
Byron Schlomach (3/25/10)
One of my relatives received a letter Tuesday from his primary-care physician announcing that he would no longer accept private insurance or government payment. This doctor is moving immediately to accepting only direct payment from patients for his services. This is just the beginning of a cascade of consequences from passage of the federal health care bill.

Arizona hog-tied by federal mandates
States Rights piece by GoldwaterInstitute:
Nick Dranias,Dorothy Donnelly Moller (3/24/10)
Until recently, state and local government interaction with the federal government seemed to consist mostly of local and state officials asking D.C. for more money. As a result, many states, counties and cities have ended up on their backs, hog-tied by federal mandates. What James Madison called our “compound republic” cannot stand unless state and local governments recognize their obligation to join with the people in resisting federal overreach.

Full-day kindergarten offers no long-term learning boost

A story last week in the Arizona Republic implied that the loss of state funding for full-day kindergarten will permanently hamper the education of schoolchildren. But this simply is not the case.
Defeat for another House seat
Republicrats piece by Offsite
(3/23/10)
Business as usual is the way to blow the 2010 opportunity - Since President Obama was sworn in, the Republican Party has won surprise statewide victories in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts. But in a big year for the party, Republicans lost all five special House races, including two in ruby-red districts because House special-election candidates are not chosen by rank-and-file Republicans in a primary but rather by a handful of party insiders in a back room.
