When incoming bombers get a little too close for comfort, Doha's air defense presses the big red intercept button. In this satirical card, Doha-Doom Dave scrambles fighters and cancels an airstrike the old-fashioned way - with explosions and panic on the radar screen.
During the escalating 2026 conflict involving Iran, the United States, and regional allies, Qatari fighter jets reportedly intercepted and shot down two Iranian Su-24 bombers that were approaching Qatari territory. The aircraft were allegedly flying at very low altitude to evade radar and were carrying bombs and guided munitions. According to reports citing U.S. and regional sources, the bombers were only minutes away from striking Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, when Qatari F-15 fighter jets engaged them. The aircraft were shot down over Qatari waters after being classified as hostile. The interception marked a significant escalation in the broader regional conflict, which has included missile and drone attacks across the Gulf. Qatar and other regional states have increased air defenses and intercepted multiple threats aimed at critical infrastructure and military installations.
